WITH Storm Ciara battering the country at the weekend, a number of sporting fixtures were postponed, including the Allianz Division 4 meeting of Wicklow and Sligo as well as Sligo ladies’ home game with Down, both were scheduled for Sunday.

On Monday morning, the CCCC of the GAA met in Croke Park and have re-fixed the Sligo v Wicklow Division 4 league game that was called off on Sunday February 9 to February 16th at 1pm in Aughrim.

Sligo are hoping to make it three wins in a row after their bright start to the Allianz league, with a composed away victory over London in Ruislip followed by a home win to Antrim in Markievicz Park.

Sligo manager Paul Taylor admitted that it was disappointing the Wicklow game didn’t go ahead considering the preparation was done.

“Look, it is disappointing when we had the preparation done and we were halfway there but it was an act of nature and the pitch was unplayable and these things happen.

“We’re ready to go now for 1pm on Sunday and have the extra week to prepare.”

In terms of Wicklow, Taylor said they are going into the game after a decent victory over Waterford.

“From what we know of Wicklow, they are a very, very good side and are one of the contenders to get out of Division 4.

“They had a very good win over Waterford and they were going well in the O’Byrne Cup so they are a good side.

“Aughrim is like a fortress for them and it’s a huge advantage for them having it at home.”

The manager said the games are coming thick and fast now for the Yeats men, with Waterford after that in Markievicz Park on Saturday, February 22nd.

“The games are coming thick and fast now, there will be 3 in a row but in saying that, we’re not looking past Wicklow, after that game then we will focus on Waterford,” he added.
