COMMUNITY GROUP

Achonry Mullinabreena Community Enhancement group, AMCE have decided to proceed with a 25-year lease on Carrowmore school to ensure that it remains in use by the entire community.

This building has played a pivotal role in so many of our lives and we would love generations to come to have Carrowmore School as part of theirs. In order to do this, we are asking for your help in covering the initial costs of €5,000 which we will incur including conveyance fees, stamp duty costs and getting a conservation study carried out.

There is a GoFundMe page set up for donations or donations can be made through the following bank account: BIC BOFIIE2D and IBAN IE88BOFI9054 9138522058. As a community, we would like to ensure the longevity of this listed building, built in 1834, as a social hub for the community as a whole therefore re-establishing its place within the community it once served. The school would increase social capital to enhance the enrichment of our community when combined with other amenities eg Knocknashee walkway and the future greenway that is planned on the railway.

Our vision is that it will become a heritage/visitor centre and offer meeting rooms to the community in addition to St Nathy’s Hall. With the long-term lease in place, we can apply for public funding to assist with the internal remedial works needed to progress the project further.

It is hoped that past pupils of the school, the local community and the diaspora of Achonry Mullinabreena abroad will support this project to ensure that this beautiful stone building at the foot of Knocknashee which has stood well with the passage of time continues to serve our community. Please spread the message to your family and friends.

All donations no matter how big or small will be gratefully appreciated and all funds raised will be utilized in the school refurbishment. We are also hoping to organise a book swap/sale in CARROWMORE SCHOOL at the end of Feb.

There has been an incredible response so far from businesses wishing to support the facility. The park offers an excellent promotional site for businesses due to its location on the N17 and as a result of the high footfall through the facility. Contact Ollie Lee at 087 7981827 for details.
