Ballymote COMMUNITY GAMES

Ballymote Community Games Art Competitio­n will take place on Tuesday, February 11, at 6.30 p.m. in Scoil Muire gan Smal, Ballymote. Please supply all your own materials. Ballymote Community Games Model Making Competitio­n will take place on Sunday, February 16, from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the Pastoral Centre. Please supply all your own materials. Prize giving for art and Model Making will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, also in the Pastoral Centre.

MORNING YOGA

LOTTO

There was no winner of the Ballymote lotto jackpot on February 1. Numbers drawn were 1, 9, 15 and 25. There were two matchthree winners, names of winners displayed locally. The jackpot now stands at €12,400. The next draw will take place in Hayden’s on Saturday, February 15, Tickets €2 each, three tickets €5. Thank you for your continued support.

SYMPATHY

BLOOD DONATION CLINIC

There will be a Blood Donation Clinic in St Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y on Wednesday, February 19, from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., please note restrictio­n on those who lived in Britain from donating blood has been lifted. As always, the demand for blood continues and every possible donation is desperatel­y needed. Injured and sick people live because other people give. Blood is life and giving some is one of the greatest gesture of love and care that most people will ever have chance to avail of.

GAA CLUB NEWS

Healthy Club Project: Our club has recently been accepted into phase four of the Croke Park National Healthy Club Project. We’re excited about the prospects of what we can deliver under this initiative. This work will be an extension of our club remit, taking us into a new era where we feel there is great potential to contribute to our wider community in a very positive way with regard to all matters relating to general health and Wellness. Following on from our successful first event of Daniel Davey’s Nutrition Talk, we are now forming a new committee to continue the work of this initiative. Gurteen RECENT DEATHS

THE death has taken place on January 16 in Coventry, England of John Flaherty a native of Doon, Gurteen. He was a regular visitor to his native Doon and Gurteen and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His remains were removed from Knock airport on Sunday evening to St Patrick’s

Church, and the Funeral Mass was celebrated by parish priest Fr Joe Caulfield on Monday with burial afterwards in Carrentemp­le Cemetery. He is survived by his sister Mary, brother – in-law Chris, nephews – Vincent, David and Kevin, nieces Anne and Michelle, relatives and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May his soul rest in peace.

THE death took place on January 25 of Janice (Jan) Croucher, Moydoo Road, Gurteen. A popular and well known lady she had come to live in Gurteen a number of years ago and was well-liked in the area. Her funeral was held last Thursday in Shannon Crematoriu­m – a memorial Mass will be held in Gurteen at a later date. Sincere sympathy is extended to her partner Martin and her daughter Katie. May she rest in peace.

THE death took place on January 21 of Richard Doyle, Enniscorth­y – father – in-law of Carmel McGovern, Gurteen. Sincere sympathy is extended to his son Will and Carmel and all the family and friends on their bereavemen­t. May he Rest in Peac.

CONCERT

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATI­ON

The Sacrament of Confirmati­on will be in Gurteen on Saturday, May 9 – there will be thirty nine young people to be confirmed by the new Bishop of Achonry Paul Dempsey. From Carn NS twenty five pupils – six from Cloonloo NS and eight from Mullaghroe NS.

BINGO

Bingo is held every Friday in Gurteen Hall at 8.30 p.m. Jackpot is €2,500 on 47 calls and the lotto game is €800 plus all the other generous cash prizes. Proceeds is shared by the hall committee and the Eastern Harps GAA Club and they wish to thank their patrons for their support during the past year and hope all have a good New Year.

SOCIAL DANCING

Social dancing continues every week at 8 p.m. in the Coleman Music Centre, Gurteen on Thursday night.

AL-ANON MEETING

Al-Anon meeting which offers support for family and friends affected by someone’s drinking is held every Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. in the Ozanam Centre, behind the Cathedral, Ballaghade­rreen.

COLLECTION

The annual Sligo CCE collection will be taken up this weekend February 15/16 throughout the county. Members of Craobh Coleman CCE Branch Gurteen will take up the churchgate collection on Sunday. Money collected will go to the Coleman Festival in August. Support would be greatly appreciate­d.

Keash-Culfadda CLANN MACHUA DRAMA GROUP

Clann Machua Drama Group, Kiltimagh are presenting John B Keane’s classic ‘Sive’ in the Art Deco, Ballymote on Friday, February 21, at 8.30 p.m. Doors open 8 p.m.

Tickets €10. Tickets can be purchased at the Foxes Den and at the Coach House Hotel.

All proceeds go towards Keash Village Enhancemen­t Ltd. Phase two of the Community Park. We are extremely grateful to Seán Langon for donating this towards our project. All support appreciate­d.

GRANT FOR MULTI USE GAMES AREA

Keash Village Enhancemen­t Ltd. have recently been awarded €15,200 under the Sports Capital Grant, to assist with the developmen­t of a Multi Use Games Area which will be located beside the playground. This will be our main project for 2020 and will require further fundraisin­g to complete. We will be holding fundraiser­s throughout the year with the aim to proceed with this project in late 2020. We are very proud of our fantastic playground and we feel the developmen­t of a MUGA pitch will enhance the Community Park and ensure there are free facilities available to the youth of our area for the future. All your ideas, assistance and support with this will be kindly accepted and greatly appreciate­d.

MONSTER AUCTION

It is intented to hold a monster fundraisin­g auction during the month of May in aid of the cost associated with restoratio­n of the church Roof in Keash. More details to follow.

Maugherow BENBULBEN COMHALTAS
