77 years of Western Drama Fest

THE Western Drama Festival has been on the go since 1944, and is as popular today as ever.

The 2020 Western Drama Festival was launched on Saturday evening at St. Brigid’s Hall.

Performanc­e nutritioni­st Daniel Davey launched the event.

The 3 Act Western Drama Festival runs nightly at 8pm from 6 th to 14 th March in St Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y.

Adjudicato­r, Dave Bennet comes to the drama festival with a great wealth of experience and expertise.

He is chair of the Scottish Associatio­n of Speech and Drama Adjudicato­rs.

This year’s programme is packed with comedy, as seven of the nine plays on offer in the programme are comedy.

The festival opens on March 6 th with St. Dympna’s Dramatic Society, Co. Tyrone performing ‘ The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ by Martin McDonagh.

Tubbercurr­y’s own Phoenix Players will take to the stage on Wednesday March 11 th with ‘ The Communicat­ion Cord’ by

Brien Friel. This is a hilarious comedy with a fantastic cast, and is directed by Peter Davey.

The Phoenix Players will tour their play on the festival circuit. There will be great atmosphere with good support from Tubbercurr­y and South Sligo for this popular drama group.

The Western Drama Festival welcomes Kiltimagh, ‘Clann Machua’, who perform Sive with the much admired play of John B Keane on Monday 9 th March.

Tickets for the 2020 Western Drama Festival One Act can be purchased through the Tubbercurr­y Tourist Office. on 071-0936616.

Tickets can also be purchased at St. Brigid’s Hall Theatre Box Office during the festival.

Admission to each show is €10 or else you can purchase a season ticket which costs €60.

This is a wonderful opportunit­y to see some of the best amateur drama around.
