Guilty plea to assault on couple

A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and a woman causing them harm.

Neil Hegarty of Ballinfull, Grange pleaded to the two assault charges at Sligo Circuit Court.

On December 2nd, 2018 at JFK Parade Hegarty assaulted Brian Crossan and Veronica McBrearty causing them harm.

He also pleaded guilty to the production of an article, namely an expandable baton, the charge was taken into considerat­ion.

Mr Keith O’Grady BL, instructed by Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor, told the court it was a matter where compensati­on would arise and his client had some money put together, but not enough and asked that the matter be adjourned to allow time for more money to be raised.

Mr O’Grady asked the court to direct a Probation Report and detailed Hegarty had no criminal history of any relevance. The matter was adjourned to October 6 th next for sentencing and a victim impact statement was directed by Judge Frances

Comerford.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man pleaded guilty to assaulting another man causing him harm at a medical products factory. Arturas Siskeviciu­s of Classie Bawn Drive, Cartron Point was arraigned on one charge of assaulting causing harm.

The court heard Siskeviciu­s assaulted Bernard Lis on November 24 th, 2017 at Protek Medical at Finisklin Business Park. A victim impact statement was directed and the matter was adjourned to May 19 th next for sentencing.

Also at Sligo Circuit Court last week, Christophe­r Gorman (30) of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to robbing €757.41 from Laszlo Omboli at Applegreen service station on Pearse Rd on June 1st last. Gorman also pleaded guilty to producing an article, namely a kitchen knife while committing the robbery.

A victim impact report was directed. Mr Keith O’Grady BL, informed the court his client was currently in custody at Castlerea Prison and was attending a psychiatri­st there. A Governor’s report was directed and the matter was put back to May 19 th next for sentencing.
