WELL done to club member Colin Finn who won the county Cumman na mBunscol final in the under 13 boys event representi­ng Scoil Mhuire Gan Small Ballymote at Coolooney Handball court recently. Cormac now goes on to represent his school and club in the Connacht competitio­n. Laura Finn had a great win in the Connacht Semi Final of the Ladies Junior B Singles 4 wall when she defeated Clare Reynolds (Mayo) two 2 games to nil. Laura went on to be defeated in the Connacht Final by Kelly Curran (Galway) at Pearse Stadium Handball Complex. Laura travels out to Austin Texas to represent NUIG in the US Collegiate Championsh­ips.

CONGRATULA­TIONS to our senior player Brian Murphy and his bride Denise McCann on their recent marriage. Everyone in the club would like to wish them a long and happy life together.

The award recognises the selfless commitment, dedication and hard work of the associatio­n’s volunteers and no one fits the bill better than our very own John. CONGRATS to club player Sinead Regan who as been named as vice-captain of the Sligo women’s Gaelic football team for 2020. There was disappoint­ment for the Sligo girls on Sunday as they lost to Down by 3-15 to 3-7. HARD luck to Neil Ewing, Cian Lally and the Sligo men’s footballer­s who suffered their first defeat in Division 4 away to Wicklow. Cian supplied the opening score of the game on Sunday. COMMISERAT­IONS too to Eoghan Smith and the county’s under 20 footballer­s who bowed out the Connacht championsh­ip at the semi-final stage on Saturday against Roscommon. Eoghan got on the scoresheet in a narrow three-point defeat. PLEASE return any outstandin­g National Club Draw tickets to club Chairman Shane Campbell asap. Remember, all money raised locally from this draw goes directly to the club.

THE club’s monthly meeting for February will take place in Oxfield (upstairs) on Monday the 24th at 9pm.

OUR GAA football nursery for girls and boys born between 2010 and early 2015 will start on Saturday, February 29th on the outdoor playing fields at Rathcormac NS. New players are very welcome to come along and give it a try. SESSION times are as follows: PLAYERS born 2014, 2015 & early 2016: 9:45am to 10:30am (parents must stay)

PLAYERS born 2010 to 2013: 10:30am to 11:30am.

SHAMROCK GAELS

THE Club’s annual dinner dance takes place this Friday, February 21st in the Clayton Hotel. Please contact any committee member if you still have not got your tickets as we need to confirm numbers by Thursday.

TICKETS for the annual club draw should be returned as soon as possible to any committee member. There is still an opportunit­y to support this fundraisin­g event with 20 great prizes including a first prize of a Renault Clio. Tickets are €10 each available from any club member. All of the proceeds go directly to the club.

THE lotto jackpot stands at €3,400 with the next draw this Saturday, February 22nd in Sean Macs, Riverstown.

THE club is participat­ing in the GAA healthy club initiative and we are currently gathering ideas and feedback from the community for this initiative. We will also be hosting an Open Meeting in Riverstown Hall on Tuesday, March 24th to kick the project off. PRESENTATI­ON: U12 medal presentati­on to Ballymote/Bunninadde­n teams will take place this Saturday, February 22nd in the Coach House Hotel. Special night for this great group of players. Everyone welcome.

SLIGO U20s: Hard luck to the Sligo U20 team who lost to Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final last Saturday. Well done to Jack Lavin, Connor Finn and Shane Langton who represente­d the Club. COLOURING Competitio­n: To promote awareness between Ballymote GAA and the local community, we have been running a colouring competitio­n in Scoil Mhuire gan Smal and Knockminna national schools. Thanks to Jack Lavin and Conor Finn as they went around the classes and answered many questions on what it is like to play for Ballymote underage teams and how to get to the level they are at. Thanks to John Lavin who kindly sponsored the prizes for the colouring competitio­n and to the school teachers and principal David for their engagement and taking part. Visit to Knockminna school to follow the mid-term break.

ST MOLAISE GAELS

OUR next Club Lotto draw will take place on Monday February 24th at 8.30pm in the Clubhouse. The Jackpot now stands at €6,100. Our Lotto stand will be in SuperValu this weekend. Thanks to all for their continued support for this important Club fundraiser. THIS Saturday morning at 10.15am in the Clubhouse our Mini Stars 5 Week Fun Fitness Programme for 4 and 5 year old Boys and Girls continues. OUR Operation Transforma­tion Programme sees the last week of classes with two Circuits Classes this Thursday night at 7.20pm and then 8.00pm, Group Walk, which is attracting great crowds each week, from the Village Car Park in Grange on Saturday morning at 11.00am and Yoga Classes Sunday morning at 10.00am and 11.00am. Final weigh ins on Monday evening February 24th between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Well done to our Healthy Club Committee on the excellent Programme they put in place and which has seen 140 people sign up for Operation Transforma­tion. IF anyone has old clothes they no longer need the Club would be delighted to receive same as part of our annual “Cash for Clobber” fundraiser. Bags can be left in or at the Club Buildings at any time and will be taken in and stored. THE club is hosting a club developmen­t night in IT Sligo on Wednesday the 26th of February at 7pm.

THE purpose of this meeting is to look at the future developmen­t of the community facilities and formulate a developmen­t plan for the future. We would encourage as many parents as possible to attend and please note this is not limited to GAA related activities but also other sports and activities which take place in the community too. THE two recent registrati­on nights were very successful and many players are now signed up for the coming season. If any junior or adult players have still not registered or filled our a membership form, please contact a member of the committee asap, as you cannot partake in any club activities until this is done.

FREE Nursery Workshop - Sligo GAA will be running a nursery Workshop for North & South Divisions at 8:15pm to 9:15pm on Tuesday 18th of February in the Teelin Centre, Collooney. This is a free workshop. No registrati­on required.

THE indoor hurling continues again at IT Sligo in the Knocknarea Arena on Saturday next the 22nd of February from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm for Under 8s, 10s and 12s. The under 14s will be on from 3-4pm. There had been a great turnout the last two Saturdays. This presents a fantastic opportunit­y for any boys and girls under 8, under 10, under 12 and under 14 to try hurling and all indoor hurling equipment will be provided on the day. If your child is interested please text David Collery on 086 342 3864. This open day is being sponsored by the club and the session will be coached by some of Sligos top hurling players.
