SPELLING BEE CHAMP

Well done to Alan O’Brien a sixth class pupil in Rathlee National School, who is this year’s winner of the County Sligo Eason Spelling Bee final. Alan won a tense competitio­n in which he faced 21 fellow spelling enthusiast­s. He will compete in the Connacht Spelling Provincial Spelling Bee in May. Alan’s parents are Bernie and Brendan O’Brien, Carrowmacb­rine.

PLAYGROUND CLOSED

The playground at Dromore West Community Centre is currently closed. There are a numbers of reasons for this, following an inspection by Sligo County Council it was decided that the equipment needed immediate repairs to maintain the insurance cover. These repairs are pending. Furthermor­e work on the new sensory garden will commence shortly and the playground will need to remain closed to facilitate these works.

TEA DANCE

A social Tea Dance for those who have Dementia and their carers will be held in the Ocean Sands on Wednesday, March 4, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mabel the person in charge in Sonas Nursing Home Enniscrone will be there to answer any Dementia related questions.

EASKEY GAA AWARDS NIGHT

Easkey GAA held an awards night in the Castle Inn, Easkey on Saturday night last. Senior Player of the Year was won by Mikey Gordon, Young Player of the Year – Eoighan-Rua McGowan. Club person of the Year – Caroline Colleary. Hall of Fame – Fr Martin Keaveney (award received by his brother Matt). The under-21 football team were presented with championsh­ip medals, the minor hurling team with championsh­ip medals and the senior hurling team with Dermot Molloy and Martin Brennan Cup winner’s medals. All medals were presented by the chairman of the club Gabriel McHugh.

RAINBOWS IRELAND

Rainbows Ireland supporting children with bereavemen­t and parental separation will hold an informatio­n evening at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone on Wednesday, February 26, at 7.30 p.m.

SKREEN DANCE

The social dance in Skreen-Dromard community centre will be held on Saturday, February 29. Music for dancing supplied by Bernie Heaney and Boz.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATI­ON NIGHT

To show our appreciati­on for all the Community Volunteers, who have contribute­d in some way over the past year, the Dromore West Village Enhancemen­t Committee is hosting a Community Volunteer Appreciati­on Night on Saturday, February 22, at 9 p.m. in the Flying Horse. This is a great evening for our community to come together and most importantl­y let all our community volunteers know how much their support and contributi­on to their community is valued.

SAFE TALK

A Safe Talk training course will be held in Dromore West Community Centre on February 20, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Booking is essential, contact Gregory at 087 3329392. This training is suitable for anyone over 18 who wants to help prevent suicide and is prepared to become suicide alert.

CARD GAME
