MICHEL-MICHELLE
Irish author Margo Gorman’s second novel Michel-Michelle will be launched in the Irish Writers Centre in Dublin on 05. March.
Irish Author Margo Gorman is set to release her second novel Michel-Michelle at the Irish Writers Centre in Dublin at 8pm on 05. March. Gorman’s debut novel Bone and Blood: A Berlin novel (2014) which told the story of an Irishwoman imprisoned in Ravensbrueck concentration camp during the Second World War was shortlisted for the for the Virginia Woolf Prize.
Michel-Michelle is the story of architect Axel who is the son of a transgender woman Michel-Michelle, his birth mother Amelia and her partner, Naomi. As potential fatherhood looms on Axel’s horizon, memories of his childhood, his relationship with his three mothers and his French/English identity swell to the surface. Challenged by his relationship with his partner, Sophie, he reflects on transitions: from male to female, from child to adult, from France to England. Michel-Michelle challenges fixed notions of gender identity. The novel is a homage to pioneers of diversity and a timely contribution to current discussions of gender fluidity.
A former student of Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney, Gorman earned her undergraduate degree in Queen’s University, Belfast where is campaigned for Civil Rights. After relocating to England, she worked with community development projects focused on rights and diversity. During this time, she completed a M.Phil. on interculturalism at the University of Manchester and took a position with the international non-profit, Save The Children. Gorman’s non-fiction articles and publications include All Different: All Equal for the Council of Europe.
Based in both the culture epicentre of Berlin to the roaming hills of North West Ireland, Gorman’s utilizes her unique perspective to discuss themes of equality, migration, identity and borders. As a lifelong champion of diversity, Gorman was thrilled to partner with Victorina Press to publish Michel-Michelle. Victorina Press is a UK based publishing house with a commitment to diversity and sustainability. Victorina Press publishes books that stand on the fringe of mainstream publishing such as prison memoirs from a prison in Iran, advice on writing, poetry, children’s books and an original mix of writers.
She has taken part in several writing events across Sligo including Fanned Apart; Female Portraits from the Niland Collection and has been a long standing member of The Model.

His talent and character have made him the amazing show man he is today. Gerry has taught some of Sligo’s finest guitar players. In this very special concert at the Hawk’s Well on February 29 th enjoy a night of laughter and music as musicians from near and far gather to celebrate the legend that is Gerry Grennan.
