The Sligo Champion

Sweet sounds from Lissadell!

- By PAUL DEERING

IT’S been ten years since Leonard Cohen and Westlife wooed audiences during three unforgettable concerts at Lissadell and this week, its owners have revealed plans for up to 12 gigs a year at the estate featuring “iconic” artists.

Vicar Street owner Harry Crosbie and promoter Peter Aiken have come on board with Lissadell owners, Eddie Walsh and Constance Cassidy to stage the concerts over the next five years with 15,000 fans at each one.

Mr Walsh told The Sligo Champion that the concerts could prove to be a €100 million boost to the local economy at a time when the country emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic and is likely to be bereft of foreign tourists for some time to come.

“Every act will be a must see,” said Mr Walsh who said he hoped the local community would back the plans, pointing out that locals would be treated with great sensitivity at all stages.
