Eastern Harps’ big fundraiser
EASTERN Harps GAA club has just concluded their recent fundraiser and raised a massive €13,000 for two local community-based organisations, Ballymote community Nursing unit and CLASP.
Both organisations provide vital services and support for many people in our area.
Ballymote Community Nursing unit will use the funds to refurbish an outdoor garden area which will allow residents to meet with their relatives in a safe social distance environment.
CLASP needs financial support to allow them to continue to provide support services for many people living in the local community.
The club said: “Many thanks and gratitude is due to our senior players who took part in a head to head challenge to see who could clock up the greatest number of kilometres and collectively they clocked up a massive 3,500 km over the 10 days.”
Speaking after the Fundraiser Chairman Seamus Hannon said: “Our club is delighted to be involved with this fundraiser which has raised vital funds for two local organisations based in our community.
“I want to especially thank the players for the effort they have put in over the past 10 days as well as the many people who made donations.
“This is another example of what our club is capable of achieving through the efforts of everyone involved”. The funds raised will be divided between the two organisations.
Former Sligo footballer and Eastern Harps man Ross Donovan also did his bit for the charity fundraiser along with his son, Michael (6).
He said that running the roads didn’t suit him at the moment and instead the father and son completed 10km on a go-kart!
It certainly was a great performance from the duo, with them completing the 10k in a mere hour and a half around the Gurteen area.
GAA clubs throughout the country and indeed country have really been doing their bit for various charities during Covid-19, which have been really well supported.
