Crash claims woman’s life soon after wedding
VICTIM MARRIED SLIGOMAN AFTER MOVE FROM CANADA
A 31 year old newly married woman passed away on Saturday last, 10 days after suffering serious injuries resulting from a car crash.
Krista Rowan, a Canadian national who had settled in Sligo after marrying her partner Eoin Rowan just six weeks ago, passed away from her fatal injuries at Beaumont Hospital. Ms Rowan was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Ms Rowan (nee Pauly) was the driver of the car which was involved in the single vehicle traffic collision that occurred on the M1 northbound outside Dundalk on August 19 th last.
She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda with serious injuries but sadly passed away on Saturday.
The late Mrs Rowan had relocated to Sligo with her partner after they met while both based in Toronto and married on July 26th last.
Krista worked as a Medical device sales representative with Boston Scientific for the past two years and was a highly valued member of staff with the company now planning to create an annual sales award in her honour. The couple married shortly after the passing of Mr Rowan’s father, Henry Rowan, a retired civil engineer from Sligo Corporation and Sligo County Council. Gardaí say investigations into the collision are ongoing. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place for Krista and her unborn baby, Ree in Markree Castle on Friday with cremation taking place in Glasnevin Crematorium, Dublin on Saturday. There has been widespread shock and sadness at the passing of Krista both in Sligo and her native Canada.
Great sadness was felt across many parts of the world this week due to the shocking and untimely death of the recently married Krista Rowan (nee Pauly), pregnant with her first child, on 29 th August at the Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, following a car accident on the M1 near Dundalk.
Krista, who was aged 31, was a Canadian citizen from Stoney Creek, Ontario.
She became a Sligo resident after finding love with Yeats County native Eoin Rowan, a management consultant in the Fintech industry, while they were both based in Toronto, subsequently relocating to Ireland together.
The couple married shortly after the passing of Eoin’s father Henry Rowan, a retired civil engineer from Sligo Corporation and Sligo County Council, who died six weeks ago at the North West Hospice.
This tragic loss of Krista and her child on top of recent events makes it a particularly heartbreaking time for husband Eoin and the Rowan and Pauly families.
All who met Krista were struck by her authenticity of spirit and vivacious energy.
As a child she performed and competed in many dance styles like ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, musical theatre, acro, as well as track and field and soccer.
She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Guelph and later earned an MBA from the University of Vancouver.
She travelled across Canada, attained her yoga teacher training accreditation in Risikesh India, lived for a year in Johannesburg, South Africa with Eoin, and more recently settled into life in Ireland.
For the past two years Krista worked for Boston Scientific’s endoscopy division as their clinical sales representative for the Republic of Ireland.
She conducted fun and interactive training courses with doctors and nurses, educating them on the use of cutting edge endoscopic equipment.
Her natural rapport with people enabled her to bring innovative and minimally invasive solutions to hospitals and clinics across Ireland, advancing patient outcomes.
In recognition of the impact she had on her colleagues and clients, Boston Scientific now plan to create an annual sales award in her honour.
Her friends and family admired how courageous she was, her charisma and willingness to be herself.
As a registered organ donor, Krista donated in her passing her two kidneys, bringing happiness and hope to two other families and their communities. Krista will be reposing at Annagh Lodge, Geevagh on Thursday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place in Markree Castle on Friday at 3.p.m.
Cremation will take place in Glasnevin Crematorium, Dublin on Saturday at 2:30pm.
Due to the current restrictions and guidelines, the reposing, funeral and cremation will be private for family and friends.
