Henry happy with opener

SLIGO minor manager Stephen Henry said after his side’s opening championship game away to Galway that he was very proud of his players and the performance they put in. “Very, very proud of them, I’m always proud of them. They put in huge effort all the time and I’m proud of the performance but I suppose disappointed we could have maybe should have finished it out but look Galway are a quality side and coming up here to Tuam is never easy. We will take a point and move on to Leitrim next week.” Workrate

“Huge amount of energy in that first half and that’s the thing for our group is energy and keeping that energy high all the time. We were there to put that pressure on them and that’s the game I suppose.” Goals

“The two lads inside in fairness are very good and once they were in with those opportunities we were fairly sure they were going to stick them. Adam and Mark are still minor again next year so there was a lot of responsibility on them and a lot of faith put in them.”

“When we turned them over we probably kicked away a lot of possession ourselves like Galway did in the first half given the elements.

“Looking forward to the Leitrim game, should be a good one in Markievicz is always a special occasion at any age and these lads get the opportunity to play there in front of a home crowd on Friday and then the Seniors the following day it’s going to be a special occasion for them as young lads to represent Sligo,” the Tourlestrane man said. Sligo success underage “The success that’s gone before this group we want to build on that, they paved the way and we’re trying to go our own path and do our own thing but definitely looking to them is inspirational and saying Sligo can come up to Tuam and we are knocking on the door.”

Sligo are at home to Leitrim in Markievicz Park Friday at 6:30pm.
