DESPITE the storm. cancelling most sporting events in the region on Saturday, our u7 and u9 Boys’ first blitz of the year still went ahead! Many thanks to Coolera Strandhill Gaa for helping facilitate a change to indoor and for travelling out to Grange. It was an especially proud day for the U7 Boys as it was their first appearance in a club jersey. OUR U15C squad got their season up and running with a comprehensive win at home on Wednesday evening against an understrength Tubbercurry/Cloonacool. FOLLOWING on from the U15A’s squad excellent performance the previous night, these guys were in control from the outset. Aaron Watters was calm and assured in goals in the first half and his kick outs started a number of SMG attacks. Sean Stewart and Ciaran Feeney on the full back line were solid and the half backs had a familiar look in Bryan McGloin, Sean Jordan, Daithí Conway. Harry Noone and

Adam O’Halloran powered on from midfield linking the play in difficult conditions and the half forward line of Daniel White, Ethan Davis and Danny Hegarty caused a lot of damage on a young T/C side. Their movement and interplay created space for Jack McLoughlin who was on a goal scoring spree. Apart from goals there were some great points scored with Dylan Nicholson as well as substitutes Charlie Finlay and Darragh O’Sullivan also getting in on the scoring action. THANKS to the referee and to a gallant Tubbercurry/Cloonacool side who travelled for the match. Well done Molaise, lots of football ahead and to look forward to. CONGRATULATIONS to Adam Roberts, Sean McSweeney, Ruairí Cronin and Conor Lenihan who, along with club coaches John O’Callaghan, Stephen Crowe and Kevan Brennan were part of the Sligo set up who beat Westmeath by a point in the second round of the Celtic Challenge on Saturday.

COOLANEY/MULLINABREENA

BEST of luck to our senior Inter-County footballer Nathan Mullen, whose Sligo side takes on Galway this Saturday at 3.30pm in Markievicz Park in the Connacht Semi-Final. Nathan, who was included in the GAA’s national team of the week for his performance vs Leitrim in the quarter final, has been an outstanding ambassador for club and county over the past few years, and any support for him and the team at large is very much appreciated. Similarly, our county U-20 representatives Conor Johnston and Eoin Barrett have a season deciding match this week against Mayo in MacHale Park, Castlebar, on Wednesday evening. This final match of the group stage serves as a de-facto Connacht Quarter Final, with the winner advancing to a semi final against Leitrim or Roscommon up for grabs. With hopes of retaining the Connacht Championship on the line for much of this group, we hope the Yeatsmen, especially our contingent will be well supported in Castlebar, throw in is at 6.30pm.

IN more local activity, our underage teams have all now kicked off their league campaigns, with our minor, u-15 and u-13 outfits all in action over the past 7 days. Our under 15 side has a local derby upcoming against Tourlestrane on Wednesday evening, while our minors take on Shamrock Gaels on Thursday. Friday sees our Under 15s face neighbours Owenmore Gaels, while this Sunday our Senior side makes their first competitive appearance of the year when they take on Tubbercurry at home. Best of luck to all sides involved.

The Academy caters to all age groups ranging from 5 to 10, and, under the watchful eye of CDO Gavin Connolly, they are excelling in all aspects of the game. Finally, Club Sligo membership is up and running for the year, and the club would wish to advertise the various subscription options available to members. Whether one buys individually or enters the club syndicate, each membership receives a multitude of perks, including entry into the monthly cash draw, which has already yielded a club winner this year. Furthermore, each signee affiliated with the club helps fill Coolaney/Mullinabreena’s subscription quota, while simultaneously helping support our intercounty teams, who have all provided us with top quality entertainment over the last number of months and years.
