Cartron and MCR drop points

SLIGO Southern Hotel Super League title contenders Cartron and MCR both dropped points this weekend as Gurteen Celtic remain in top spot, although they will be keeping a close eye on Carbury who are nine points behind with four games in hand.

Strand Celtic took all three points from their clash with MCR on Friday night.

Donagh Crowne opened the scoring after 14 minutes, a lead the reigning Super League champions held on to for 20 minutes.

Aaron O’Boyle equalised shortly after the half hour mark to make it level.

The second half was 20 minutes old when veteran striker Keith Nibbs restored MCR’s lead.

Donagh Crowne scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 to the Sligo town side.

But, with seven minutes left Aaron O’Boyle hit MCR with two goals in two minutes, completing his hat-trick and bringing his side level again.

The momentum was with Strand and in the last minute Oran McDonagh gave Strand Celtic the lead and what proved to be the winner securing the points for Strand Celtic.

Arrow harps hosted Manor in Riverstown Park, and it was Manor who took the lead early on when a corner swung in was met by Brian McDonald .

Harps themselves had two corners that were cleared off the line shortly after that.

Manor extended their lead with a nice ball played in behind and finished off by Diarmuid Giblin.

Manor were leading 2-0 at halftime, but Harps came out better in the second half and on the hour mark a corner swung in was hit home by Karl McKenna, giving Harps a life line.

The Riverstown side upped the pace and were level on 75 minutes when Patrick Kenny played through Luke Flynn who smashed it into the back of the net for 2-2.

Calry Bohs had a convincing win over Glenview Stars on Sunday morning in MacSharry Park.

Eoin Nicholson in red hot form bagged himself six goals while Patrick Woulfe, Ivan Paramonov and Gavin Lynch got in on the act.

Ballymote Celtic took a valuable three points from their opponents Cartron United in Brother Walfrid Park on Sunday morning.

The only goal of the first half came in the 37th minute from Conor Duffy who finished well following Jack Hever’s assist.

Cartron were quickest out of the blocks in the second half and were level after three minutes through Donal Gallagher’s strike.

Paul Logan was on the mark seven minutes later after being put through by Jason Dwyer to give Ballymote the lead.

Five minutes later Ballymote struck twice in two minutes .

The first from Jack Hever followed by Barry Cafferky a minute later. Clive Brennan pulled one back for Cartron in the 75th minute but despite the chances created by Cartron, Ballymote came away with a huge win.

Ballygawle­y Celtic and Ballisodar­e Utd brought the curtains down in the last game of the Sligo Pallets Premier League season.

It was Ballisodar­e who took the three points on the day with goals from Gary Anderson, Adam Grace and Paul Scanlon capping off a fine season for the Ballisodar­e side.

Dromahair bowed out of the Men’s Connacht Shield Quarter Final following a close encounter against Ballinagar­e Manor that saw the game go to extra-time.

The game finished 3-3 after 90 minutes and the winning goal was scored in the last minute of extra-time by Sligo native Jason McCartney.

Scorers on the day for Dromahair were Donnacha Devaney, Niall Hopper and Peter Cogan.
