Well done to all involved in the U14 Féile which took place on Sunday. Unfortunately it was not to be our day but the girls put on some great performances throughout the day. Our u14 team have a well earned rest this week from fixtures.

Our u16 team had a busy day on Saturday taking a trip to the Dome before heading over to support our Sligo Lady minors in the B Connacht Final. The u16 team are due to play Eoghan Rua this week. Well done to our Senior ladies who, after a tough battle, drew their game with Tourlestrane on Sunday morning, securing their place in the Division 1 League Final against Eoghan Rua. ST PATRICK’S

FIXTURES and Results

Our U14 girls played at home to CT Gaels this week. Unfortunately the visitors left with the win. The girls take on Geevagh/St. Michaels this week away to Geevagh, Monday at 7pm.

U18 boys took on Tourlestrane at home on Tuesday evening. After a hard fought game it finished up with a draw, St. Pat’s 3-11 to Tourlestrane 2-14.

U16 girls took on a very strong Owenmore Gaels side last Thursday and despite keeping their heads up until the end, Owenmore Gaels proved the deserved winners on the night. Our ladies team had their last league game Friday night v St.Michael’s. This game was a relegation play off so it was a must win for the ladies to stay in Division 3. Up until half time it had been a very evenly matched game with our ladies playing into the sun. In the second half they pulled away with a very strong finish at. 5-15 to 0-7. The Senior men will be starting their League Campaign this week with Round 1 v Easkey, away at 7pm. Congratulations Well done to Danny Woodrow and his county minor teammates who won the Connacht Shield Final against Leitrim this week. Well done and best of luck to Skreen/Dromard’s U10, U12 and U14 draughts teams that won Gold at Sligo and Connaught and are headed to the All Ireland’s next Sunday.

GEEVAGH

MONDAY evening saw our U.10 & U.12 Girls in Go Games action at home to Eastern Harps. These games produced some great football and were enjoyed by all who attended.

Thursday our U.16 GSTM Girls were pitted against Calry / St Joseph’s, two early goals from our opponents put our Girls on the back foot, they trailed by 2.02 to 0.02 at half time. A stronger Calry side ran out winners in the end.

Friday saw our Senior Ladies in action away to Owenmore Gaels. The game was abandoned after six minutes after one of our players suffered a serious injury. Wishing Leanne, a speedy recovery from her injury on the night.

Sunday was the busiest day of the week on the field of play, our U.15 GSTM Girls were competing in the Féile na nÓg competition. Hosted by Geevagh, a warm day made it difficult on all teams, a good complaint weather-wise. Our girls defeated Calry by 2 goals to 1.02 in energy sapping conditions. They played their second game of the day against Curry, early goals from our opponents saw them lead at half time by 3.04 to 1.04. A fourth Curry goal left our girls with an uphill task, they battled right through that 2nd half but were beaten at the final whistle.

The Final saw our Girls pitted against Curry, the first half of 12 minutes saw both sides kick three scores each, Curry scored 2.01, while our Girls kicked 1.02. Two second half goals from our opponents put them in the driving seat and they ran out Div. 3 Féile winners on a 3.05 to 1.04 final score line. Missing a few key players didn’t help our Girls cause, but they battled none the less to the final whistle. Well done to the Girls and Management on an entertaining morning’s football. Thanks to all our club volunteers who worked hard over the weekend to ensure our pitch and facilities would be in pristine condition, as they were. The food and drinks providing in the Resource Building were greatly appreciated by all who attended the Féile.

Thanks to Referee Eric Rainey for his fine officiating of all the games.

Our Senior Lads were in Final Round Spring League action away to St John’s this afternoon. Played in Stenson Park, our lads put in a solid display to emerge winners on a 1.14 to 3.05 final score line.

ST MOLAISE GAELS

We wish Laoise Carroll a quick recovery from an injury sustained towards the end of the U14 game. The girls have booked a provisional date of Saturday, May 25th, for their sponsored climb of Benbulben in memory of their coach, Paddy Wallace, who passed away following a battle with cancer on September 27th, 2023.

In Paddy’s memory, the girls intend to donate to the North West Hospice and purchase a second set of jerseys for their large squad of 39 girls. They will also advertise the Hospice on the jerseys to recognise the fabulous work this unbelievable charity organisation does in the region.

Due to many enquiries, a donation page has been set up to accept online donations and a link is available on our Facebook and Instagram pages or donations can be made in person to any of the coaches.

On Saturday, a panel of 22 Molaise Gaels’ girls participated in Féile at CT Gaels’ grounds in Cloonacool in glorious sunshine. The girls started well with a closely fought victory against neighbours Drumcliffe Rosses Point. A victory for CT Gaels against our girls in game 2 brought CT to the final and set up a winner-take-all game for Molaise against St Nathy’s for a place alongside them. The girls weren’t found wanting and came away with a narrow 2-point victory in a very close affair. As is the norm in Féile format, the girls were on the pitch again within 10 minutes to play the final against CT Gaels. Alas, it wasn’t to be for the girls as they were defeated by CT Gaels who were deserving of their victory in the final and for their play throughout the day. The SMG girls did themselves proud with their determined displays throughout the day. Notably, at this u15 competition 16 of the panel of 22 were at the younger u14 grade. Thanks to Sligo LGFA, referees and host club CT Gaels who had their grounds in splendid condition. Thanks to all the parents who gave the girls great support today, particularly those who brought the home baking! The club had plenty of players in action for their county during the week and on Friday evening, three of our Minor players started the Connacht Minor Championship Shield Final. Cian Nicholson, Conor Langan and Dante Currid were on the winning side in Ballinamore, beating Leitrim on a score of 1-09 to 0-11. Congratulations to the lads and their teammates and management.

Well done to Molaise players Adam Roberts, Seán McSweeney and Conor Lenehan and coaches John O Callaghan, Stephen Crowe and Kevan Brennan who now go on with their team to meet Tyrone in the Celtic Cup Final in two weeks’ time. Also well done to Adam O Halloran, Daniel White, Charlie Joe Fagan, Liam Foran and Aidan Gillen who were part of the Sligo GAA U15 hurler’s squad that played Roscommon in Athleague on Saturday. Congratulations to the Sligo Senior Football Team and management on a comprehensive victory over Tipperary in the second round of the Tailteann Cup in Thurles on Saturday.
