Faster broadband speeds due in 2013

-

PLANS TO bring by far the fastest broadband speeds ever to parts of County Wexford have been announced by eircom.

Enniscorthy, Gorey, and further locations in Wexford town will be added to the telecommunications company’s Fibre Broadband Network during 2013, as part of Phase IV or the national roll-out of the network. Download speeds of up to 70Mb per second are anticipated.

The three locations in Wexford are among 50 nationwide that will benefit from this phase of the work. Enniscorthy and Gorey will be serviced for the first time, and while parts of Wexford town are already included in a pilot programme, supplemental work will be carried out to expand the service to a greater area within that exchange.

Work on the programme is to commence next Spring, and eircom hopes to complete the construction phase by the end of 2013.

Herb Hribar, CEO eircom Group, said ‘Our strategic investment in fibre broadband will deliver innovative products to our customers. The announcement of the 50 Phase IV locations, taken together with the previous announcements, underlines our commitment to provide innovative fibre broadband and TV services to customers across each county in Ireland. The challenges are numerous, but the organisation is working hard to ensure that customers will have a much improved end to end experience.’
