INTO THE FINAL

On Sunday morning last two hundred plus supporters of the St Fintans GAA club took the journey to Clane, Co. Kildare to support their intermediate ‘A’ football champions in the semi final of the AIB Leinster club junior club football championship.

With little or no breeze and ideal underfoot conditions for the time of year the large following was treated to an action filled encounter when St Fintans took on Clogherinkoe (Kildare)for a place in this years Leinster finals. The Kildare champions opened the scoring in the 7th minute but a minute later Brendan Huges leveled the scores.

This timely score helped to settle St Fintans and in the 17th minute Joey Wadding pounced to score a goal with Donal Shanley from a forthy five and Cathal O’Brien from play before a Conor Sinnott converted penalty kick leaving the scoreline at the break St Fintans 2-3 Clogherinkoe 05.

A further goal by Wadding on 7 minutes of the second half saw St Fintans stretch their lead to 6pts and it was then that Clogherinkoe came good reducing the defecit to two pts with ten minutes remaining but a J.W. Rowe point steadied the ship for St Fintans and they once again stretched the lead to 6 pts but an injury time goal for the Kildare men produced a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-10 in favour of the men from the sunny southeast.

To a man St Fintans men stood tall with Frank and Jimmy Staples,Kevin Day, Conor Sinnott and Joey Wadding all looking a bit special.
