Three Juveniles for All-irelands

Adamstown to host big races

WEXFORD ATHLETES were out in force in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, on Sunday last for day two of the Leinster crosscountry championships, uneven ages and Intermediates.

The prize on offer for the Juvenile athletes who qualified in the top 12 was the chance to run a national championship on home ground in Adamstown on December 9, and two Wexford Juveniles will have that honour.

In the boys Under-11, Luke Byrne of Adamstown A.C. came sixth, winning his second Leinster medal of the 2012 season and having the rare opportunity of running a national championship in his own village, hosted by his own club and sure to have the home crowd behind him.

Michael Carroll of D.M.P. came in ninth position in the boys Under-13, ensuring that he will be cheered on by the home crowd in the nationals also.

Catherine Murphy of Slaney Olympic ran a tough race to win bronze in the women's Intermediate, adding to her gold in the Masters at day one of the Leinster championships.

In the men's Intermediate, Myles Gibbons finished 19th and Ger Maloney finished 24th for Wexford.

While none of the Wexford Juvenile county teams qualified out of Leinster in 2012, our hopes lie with the three Juveniles through to the All-Irelands - Lauren Kinsella (Enniscorthy) in the girls’ Under-18, Michael Carroll (D.M.P.) in the boys’ Under-13 and Luke Byrne (Adamstown A.C.) in the boys’ Under-11 and boys’ Under-12.
