Bright start to academy

-

THE WEXFORD ladies’ football development committee launched their Under-15 academy on Bank holiday Monday at the Whitford House Hotel and Leisure Complex.

A total of almost 50 girls attended the event and were treated to a funfilled and informative day. Each player was presented with a t-shirt generously sponsored by BNY Mellon to mark their inclusion in the first-ever ladies’ football academy.

The day commenced with the girls participating in Whitford Leisure Complex's widely acclaimed assault course under the watchful eye of the leisure complex staff and ladies’ football inter-county stars Tara Moloney and MaryRose Kelly. The girls then availed of the various other facilities within the centre.

Following lunch a number of topics in relation to nutrition, injury prevention, burn-out, football and personal development were discussed.

The highlight of the day came when Wexford inter-county star David Murphy and Wexford's Paralympics swimming gold medalist Darragh McDonald provided both an informative and inspirational conclusion to proceedings.

The development committee would like to thank all those who made the day such a success. The coaching-based sessions commenced on Tuesday last at Rathnure G.A.A. complex.

The emphasis of these sessions will be on individual player development. The process will provide a platform for development in both football and lifestyle, which will be carried out by expert personnel. Wexford ladies’ football is moving forward.
