Cullen double wins it for the seasiders

Women’ s Premier One Shield Group B

Curracloe United 2, North End United 1: Both these sides have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Shield but they still managed a tight, hard-fought encounter before Curracloe eventually came out on top to finish top of the group. Martina Pender scored for North End while Rhianna Cullen scored both goals for Curracloe.

Women’ s Division al Shield Group A

Tombrack United 2, Camolin Celtic 4: Their ability to take their chances was the difference between these sides as Camolin picked up their first victory of the season. They led 3-0 thanks to goals from Megan Murray, Katie Kehoe and Niamh O’Leary but the home side battled back with goals from Sarah Merrigan and Kelli Maguire before Katie Kehoe killed off the game with her second goal minutes from the end.

St. Cormac’s 0, Courtown Hibs 4: Hibs booked their place in the knockout stages with a comfortable 4-0 win away to St. Cormac’s. Two goals from Sarah Lynch and one each from Therese Flynn and Louise Kavanagh gave the visitors the three points needed to ensure their place in the next round.

Women’ s Division al Shield Group B

Stoney L.F.C. 0, New Ross Town 8: With both sides out of the Shield, there was little to play for in this match but Ross Town were ruthless in attack as they ran out 8-0 winners. Sandra Murphy and Sinéad Ryan scored a hat-trick each while Jenny Canning and Ann Carroll also found the back of the net.

Women’ s Division al Shield Group E

Wexford Bohs 1, Bridge Rovers 2: Rovers booked their place in the knockout stage of the Shield when they overcame Bohs in a tight match where there was little between the sides. Aideen Byrne was on target for the home side while Becky Carter and Haley Lacey scored the all-important goals for Rovers.

Women’ s Premier Division

East End United 9, Benfica L.F. 0: After last week’s shock defeat to Curracloe, Benfica travelled to Bennetsbridge and found the sharpshooting forwards of the home side too hot to handle. Jenny Reddy (four), Niamh Bolger (three), Ria Lawson and Aine Lannon all hit the net for a very strong East End side.

Adamstown L.F.C. 1, Ferns United 5: Ferns opened their league campaign with a win away to rivals Adamstown and at present are looking unstoppable. Marcella Cullen was on target for the home side but a Liz Evered hat-trick and goals from Aoife Devereux and Leona Breen gave Ferns all three points.

Women’s Division 1

All Blacks 2, Piltown F.C. 3: Piltown will be pushing hard for promotion to the Premier Division this season but will be glad to have come away from All Blacks with all three points after being made work very hard by the home side. Tara Lambert and Tina Colloton scored for All Blacks while Niamh Rockett and Liz O’Toole (two) scored the vital visitors’ goals.

Women’ s Division 2 A

St. Leonards 1, St. Joseph’s 1: These sides will be among the favourites in this division and both produced a game worthy of title contenders in this 1-1 draw. Fiona Ryan was on target for the home side while Michelle Gahan scored for St. Joseph’s.

Cloughbawn A.F.C. 6, Moyne Rangers 1: Cloughbawn are scoring at will this season and overcame one of their biggest challengers when defeating Moyne Rangers 6-1. Gina Foley scored a hat-trick for the home side to add to goals from Tina Cullen, Kate Cullen and Tracy Martin.

Women’ s Division 2 B

Shelburne F.C. 2, Bunclody A.F.C. 6: Bunclody continued their good start to the season with a 6-2 win away to Shelburne. Eimear Murphy scored both goals for the home side who came from 2-0 down to level just before half-time. However, goals from Hayley Browne, Alma Morris (two) and Britney Conroy (three) gave Bunclody all three points.

Rosslare Rangers 3, Arklow Town 1: Arklow’s long trip to Rosslare was a fruitless one as the home side went ahead in the first-half and the visitors were unable to get back into the game. Clodagh Cousins scored twice for Rangers with Lauren Barry also getting her name on the scoresheet.

Women’s Division 3

Cushinstown A.F.C. 3, Ajax Athletic 0: Cushinstown opened their league season with a deserved 3-0 win over a determined Ajax Athletic. Helen Power and Amie Gaffney (two) were on target for the winners who were delighted with this victory after a lot of hard work on the training pitch in recent months.
