National awards for two radio presenters
TWO South East Radio personalities have won silver awards in the PPI National Radio awards.
Alan Corcoran, the voice of ‘ The Morning Mix’, has won the Silver Award for the Best Current Affairs Broadcaster, while Alan Maguire won the Silver Award for ‘Going with the Flow’ co-presented by Don Conroy and the late Chris Wilson.
Alan Corcoran said it was ‘ the third time of asking’ and he had been up against national figures, the likes of Sean Moncrieff, who won gold, and Anton Savage.
‘It’s always nice for local journalists or radio representatives to compete with the big boys,’ he said, following the awards night at the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny.
A familiar figure jogging around his home town, Wexford in training for mini/ half or full marathons, Alan Corcoran is passionate about sports, theatre, musicals and live performances generally. He has starred, produced and directed many shows over his long career but counts his radio work as his biggest hobby.
He loves the eclectic nature of his programme- it is different from day to day driven by what is happening locally, nationally and internationally.
His broadcasting career commenced on Hospital Radio Wexford. He has worked with local and national radio stations throughout his career. The morning programme was rebranded as the South East Radio Morning Mix, Chat, News and Your Views in August 2009 with Alan at the helm.
Alan is married to Ann Marie and has two children.
Alan McGuire was born and raised in Wexford as he says ‘on the wrong side of the track’ so much so that he was almost living in the Slaney. He admits to having a pampered upbringing, ‘while everyone else in the corporation estate froze during the harsh winters we had two lumps of coal for the fire.
Alan has a keen interest in movies especially traditional cinema but enjoys all types of music.
During his shows Alan likes nothing more than the banter with his listeners over the phone and listening to people pass on all types of knowledge.
