LADIES GAA

Best week so far for Clonard Volunteer Ladies with four wins out of four games played. Our under-12 girls played their county final in Wexford Park on Sunday morning V Taghmon, despite the very early start and bad weather the town girls took the game in their stride. This strong nineteen member team put on a great display of football as they were determined to keep their undefeated record for the 2017 season. The Town side won the first two quarters but a very determined Taghmon came back and won the third quarter but Clonard Vols dug deep and took control of the final quarter to finish with a fantastic score of 5-3 ‘v 0-6.

The girls were rewarded with silverware for their determination, motivation and hard work throughout the season, a massive team effort has been put into this group of girls as games are not won by individuals, therefore we would like to thank all the players, coaches, parents, family, friends and supporters. Also thank you to Paul Murphy from Viking Wexford Glass for sponsoring our under-12 girls.

Clonard Vols would like to thank County Board for all the work that goes into organising the underage final, a special thanks to Breda Curran for putting the programmes together.

On Saturday evening our Junior B team took on Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the league quarter final, this was a very close tough physical game but the town girls showed more determination on the night which resulted in them securing their well deserved place in the upcoming semi-final v St Martin. Final score Clonard Volunteers 0-10 V 1-5.

On Tuesday evening our under-16 girls travelled away to St Martin’s to play their semi-final, after a high volume of wide’s in the opening minutes the girls settled into the game. The half time score reflected the girls hard work 1-7 V 0-4. However, the second half was a lot tougher as St Martin’s battled hard to win the game and came within 0-2 of catching up with Clonard Vols, but the town girls just proved to strong on the night with the final score being 2-12 V 2-06. This positive result has secured their place in the Division 1 Cup Final v Bunclody on September 16 at 10.30 a.m. in Farmleigh, Marshalstown. Best of luck, girls.

On Monday evening our senior ladies took on Kilanerian in their league semi-final, from the start Clonard

Vols took control of the game, which lead to a massive win of 6-13 v 1-8. Well done to Clonard Vols under-10 girls who played a fantastic game v Shells last week, the girls took a very determined lead from the start which continued throughout the game, on the final whistle the town girls came out on top with a fab score of 6-6 v 3-3,
