Welcome for new councillor at meeting
MEMBERS of Wexford Borough District welcomed newly co-opted Cllr. Thomas Forde to his first meeting, following the retirement of longstanding Sinn Fein councillor Anthony Kelly.
‘I’m delighted that you’re joining us. I know that all the members and the executives wish you well’, said the Mayor of Wexford, Cllr. Jim Moore. ‘Whatever information and assistance you need, just ask’.
Fellow Sinn Fein councillor Mick Roche said he had campaigned with Cllr. Forde on a range of issues over a number of years and looked forward to working with him on the Council. He also wished Cllr. Kelly well in his retirement.
Cllr. Tony Roche congratulated
Cllr. Forde and said that from his address to a
County Council meeting, it was clear he had a
‘humanitarian’ approach to life.
In wishing Cllr.
Kelly a happy retirement, Cllr. Roche said he didn’t think Anthony knew just how much he is liked around the town.
‘Everyone always asks about him and has only good things to say about him. I would like that to be conveyed to him’, he said. Cllr. Tony Dempsey remarked: ‘If you ever canvassed around Wexford town, you would know how popular he is’.
Cllr. Ger Carthy said he knew Cllr. Forde’s late father Daithí well and he was sure he would have been thrilled to see him as a member of Wexford County Council.
‘I knew his grandfather, Tom Forde. He was a good friend of mine’, said Cllr. Dempsey adding that Cllr. Forde’s knowledge of education as a primary school teacher would be of benefit in his role as a councillor.
