‘Poppy’ Wexford’s top dog name

ANIMAL LOVERS all over the county are fully aware that dogs become very much part of the family and a new survey has revealed that when it comes to naming our canine friends there are five names that top the list with Poppy being the most popular choice in Wexford.

The survey was carried out by Petmania as part of their research into finding the 20182018 Puppy of the Year.

It appears that everything from extreme weather events and music icons to TV programmes can all have an influence when it comes to naming a pooch.

Some of the names revealed in the study included Ophelia, Elvis Pugsley and Thor! The top five names across the country were: Bella, Alfie, Cooper, Milo and Poppy.

Around 500 ‘pet parents’ were consulted for the survey.

In Wexford there is a tendency to give dogs human names too with some of the popular choices being Joey, George, and Jackson. The public can now help find Ireland’s Puppy of the Year by voting online at www.petmania.ie/vote and the winner will receive a year’s supply of food and grooming and a two-night stay in Enniskoe House, County Mayo.
