Members of Castle Vintage Club based in Taghmon raised more than €8,000 for St. Luke’s Hospital cancer care during a weekend tractor run to Donegal, bringing to approximately €300,000 the total amount they have collected for charity during the 12 years since the club was founded and the annual event began.

Eighteen vintage tractors drove 380 kilometres to Donegal over three days, stop- ping overnight on Friday and Saturday at Portlaoise and Carrick-on-Shannon before rolling into Donegal town on the Sunday, with club volunteers collecting along the way to augment the donations received from sponsorship cards.

‘We had summer weather the whole way and we got a great reception from everyone. We had great craic, ’ reported club chairman Pat Monaghan.

Over the years, the Castle Vintage Club tractor run has raised money for numerous charities including Wexford Hospice Homecare, the Azheimers Society and the Tracey Lawlor Trust.

The club was founded in 2006 and when the first tractor run was being organised, members thought they might as well raise money for charity while they were at it. ‘It’s nice to go off on a run and it’s nice to come back with a cheque for charity’, said Pat.
