Sadness at death of proud family woman Phyllis Wilde

THERE was widespread sadness in Wexford at the recent passing of Phyllis Wilde (nee Creane) of 14 Corish Park, Wexford.

Phyllis died peacefully, surrounded by her family, in the wonderful care of Knockeen Nursing Home on Thursday 26th April 2018 where she had been residing for the previous 11 months.

Phyllis was born in 1932, one of nine children of Tom and Bridie Creane.

As a young woman she worked in English’s, a publishing company based in Wexford. Phyllis and her sister Betty also spent some time working in a boarding school in England.

On her return to Wexford Phyllis met her future husband Tony and they were married in 1952. The couple enjoyed 58 years together until Tony passed away in 2010.

The couple settled in Corish Park where Phyllis devoted her life to rearing her family. They were very proud of their family and left a notable legacy of seven daughters, one son, eighteen grandchild­ren and five great-grandchild­ren.

Phyllis was a talented seamstress and she enjoyed cooking and baking, much to the delight of her children and grandchild­ren.

She was a very private person and devoted her life to her family. She especially enjoyed the daily visits of friends and relatives who shared a chat with her over a cup of tea.

Phyllis is survived and sadly missed by her daughters; Theresa, Betty, Annette, Geraldine, Dolores, Eileen and Jennifer, her son Anthony, her sonsin-law, daughter-in-law, her beloved grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren, and by her brothers Gerald, Tommy, Colm and Michael and her sister Betty Donovan.

She was predecease­d by her husband Tony and by her sisters; Terry, Molly and Brenda.

Phyllis was laid to rest in St Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown after funeral mass in Clonard Church. The Month’s Mind Mass will take place in Clonard Church on Saturday, May 26 at 6 pm.
