The absolutely biggest congratula­tions that we can give goes to our very own Paul Conroy who, after several rounds of qualifying, made the finals of the British Schools & Colleges Tour 2018 national finals held in Trevose, Cornwall, U.K.

On the penultimat­e day, Paul shot a 67 (-5) to lead by one shot going into final round and carded a 72 on the final day to win by one shot in the individual event. We couldn’t be more proud of you.

The first of the year’s majors is the Bloomfield Cup (golfer of the year three) sponsored by Counterpoi­nt Ireland Enniscorth­y on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, starting at 8 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. respective­ly.

This will be followed by the Sunday evening mixed at 4 p.m. with a shotgun start for members only.

The gents’ nine-hole midweek on May 16 is at 3 p.m., sponsored by Alcast Motors.

BALLYMONEY

Club Captain Marty Lawlor and lady Captain Veronica O’Riordan had their drive-in on bank holiday Monday. The good weather saw a good turn-out for an open three-person team scramble.

Results: 1, Luke and Maurice Hedderman with Andy Williams, nett 61.2; 2, Eamon Moran with Mark and Kevin Keenan, nett 61.9; 3, Charlie Logan, Troy Kenny and Liam Redmond, nett 62.

Winter league result: The winners were Anthony D. Doyle’s team, The Hornets.

Bank holiday nine-hole competitio­n (mixed) open: 1, Michael T. Byrne (20), 19 points; 2, John Smullen (26), 19 points; 3, Fiona Daly-Williams (40, Castle), 17 points, holding off Ken Layton on countback.

There was no midweek nine-hole competitio­n during the week.

Weekend singles stableford (mixed): 1, Gary O’Grady (24), 39 points; 2, Paul Sutton (9), 38 points; 3, Paddy McNulty (12), 37 points.

Peter Byrne and his Pierce Purcell Scotch foursomes team battled gallantly in Wexford on Saturday morning but unfortunat­ely failed to qualify for the matchplay.

Well done to our neighbours, Courtown, who came up short in the semi-final to a very strong home team. Names for this year’s matchplay are now being taken.

COURTOWN

Two more of our club teams were out again during the past week, and the run of good play continued.

Our Provincial Towns Team played Wexford on Sunday and had a good win there, while our Pierce Purcell team qualified for the top four on Saturday but this time Wexford got the better of us.

Next Saturday our Irish mixed foursomes team will take on Waterford, and on Sunday the Duggan Cup team will play Woodenbrid­ge. Once again we wish them all well in their future rounds.

On Thursday, May 17, the G.U.I., I.L.G.U. nine-hole championsh­ip qualifier round takes place, on Saturday we will have a ladies’ and gents’ singles, and on Sunday it will be an open fourball any combinatio­n.
