OVER €2,500 RAISED AT WALK FOR DIABETES

-

MORE than €2,500 was raised for County Wexford children with diabetes at a well attended walk in Ballycullane on May Bank Holiday Monday.

Around 120 people from across County Wexford togged out for the 5km and 10km walk and run.

The walk is now in its seventh year and its numbers have been growing.

Organiser Clodagh Barry, who started the annual event seven years ago as a thank you to the clinic, said: ‘The day was lovely; there was no rain.

‘The money goes towards kids with diabetes at Wexford General Hospital. Our aim is to take them out and we have a big event each year in Carne for them.’

The money will also go towards training in relation to awareness about the condition which affects around 150 Wexford children, aged from as young as two.

‘We want to spread the word so that parents can be aware of the symptoms of diabetes in young kids.’

Clodagh is a member of the Wexford Diabetes Support group.

‘We were formed to take pressure off of the nurse as they do such amazing work.’

She thanked Yvonne Byrne of Slimming World, Wayne Sinnott, A&A coaches, My Sport in Enniscorthy and Wexford General Hospital for supporting the event.
