Amnesty Wexford pick up Group Impact award

-

THE Wexford Amnesty International group recently won the Group Impact Award at Amnesty Ireland conference.

Local members Trish Robinson, Lorraine Smyth and Cliona O’Farrelly were on hand to accept the award although Lorraine said they were totally caught off guard when they were announced as winners.

The organisers of the awards spoke about the commitment the Wexford Amnesty group had towards the support of refugees with their Safe Passage for Refugees initiative. The group’s annual film night to promote human rights and the card signing for Ibrahim Halawa’s release in the Bullring Wexford which received great support were almost mentioned.

Lorraine said that the award was really an award for all Wexford people. ‘The reason we received this award is really because of the support we receive locally from the people of Wexford so essentially it’s an award for the Wexford people in general who support human rights.’

Amnesty Wexford is starting a youth group if anyone wants to join please contact lorrainesmyth21@gmail.com.
