Wexford Supervalu stores not in project

-

NO Supervalu stores in Wexford will take part in an initial trial of the 70 stores nationwide who are introducing compostable produce bags.

However it is hoped that the bags can be rolled out in Wexford in the coming months if the project is a success.

Last week Supervalu announced it would be Ireland’s first introduce compostable produce bags as part of pledge to make 100 per cent of SuperValu own brand and fresh produce packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025

The compostable produce bags are designed to replace the use of plastic bags within the fruit and veg section with customers using the bags to purchase loose produce. The new bags are currently being trialled in around 70 SuperValu stores with a view to making them available across the entire store network.

The free compostable produce bags are designed to be breathable to help preserve food placed into the bag. They can also be filled with food waste after use and placed in the brown bins Supervalu is trying to raise awareness among consumers of how to shop in a sustainable way.
