GAA CLUB NOTES

Adam Murphy was fullback on the Wexford under-16 hurling team that lost out in their first two Celtic challenge matches. The Junior B hurlers enjoyed an eight point win against a very strong St Anne’s team in Rathangan recently in the championship, the lads have a big panel with nine subs togged off. That makes it two from two for the year so far.

Fixtures for week: The Junior B hurlers play Askamore tonight in our pitch at 8 p.m. in the league. On Thursday the under-15 hurlers play Duffry Rovers at home at 7.30 p.m. On Saturday our junior footballers play Starlights away in Bellfield ay 7 p.m.

We are in the top seven clubs for Cúl Camps bookings so make sure and book your place early as places are limited.

The under-15 footballers enjoyed a 3-12 to 1-01 win against Marshalstown-Castledockrell which means they have won three from three so far this year. The under-13 footballers lost to Starlights 2-08 to 2-06 which was some of the best football seen in Blackwater for years.

Congratulations to Jake Nobbs, Feidhlim Roche, and Aaron Culleton, who were part of the St Peter’s football team who won the Gearoid O’Sullivan Cup in a blitz.

The annual Blackwater golf classic takes place in St Helen’s Golf Club Rosslare on Friday, June 1, its a change of date. Team of four €200 and includes a meal. Lots of prizes to be won.

We would love to know if there is any old memorabilia in the parish, old jerseys, old hurling balls, old medals etc as we would love to photograph these before they are lost to the ages. If so please email dexleary@gmail.com.

On this week 100 years ago, a Wexford Committee meeting was held which Blackwater Thomas Murphy attended. The meeting dealt with the reinstatement of players that played with unaffiliated clubs. Also the draw was made for the intermediate hurling league, Blackwater were drawn to play St Ann’s (presumingly St Anne’s).
