DANCING AT CAMROSS

Michael Collins succeeded in sending all our supporters home ‘sweatin’ from our May dance held on Friday the fourth last. The large number of dancers present remained on the dance floor till the very end and all agreed it was a brilliant night.

The June dance will be held on Friday the 1st with music by T-Bone Country; admission is €10 including the tea.

CLONGEEN GRAVEYARD

A recording of the inscriptions on the memorial gravestones in the Old Graveyard in Clongeen is reaching its final stages. During this recording, we noticed that there are quite a number of people from surrounding areas buried in this graveyard. Unfortunately some inscriptions have become illegible due to weathering.

If you suspect that a gravestone, which was erected to remember someone in your family, may not be legible enough to be recorded, we would like to hear from you. Your help is vital, if a headstone no longer displays the information that your ancestors wished to preserve, when they were erecting it. This information could be of great benefit to people in the future, who wish to trace their ancestors.

We will be available to people attending the pattern on May 20 Alternatively you can ring 087 2363903 if this suits you.

CAMROSS DRAMA GROUP

Weekly play readings are proving popular with our members. The 3-Act comedy ‘Canaries’ by Bernard Farrell was read last Tuesday with much laughter... it may be a runner. All are welcome to the 1-Act play reading next Tuesday, May 15, 8 p.m. in Caroreigh Old School, when the festival play is to be chosen. Like us on Facebook for regular updates.

COISTE NA NOG

Under-7 numbers continue to be encouraging with a large crowd at training again on Tuesday night. Training starts at 6.30 for anyone thinking of bringing their kids down to try it out. Under-9s had two teams with a total of 26 players at the Football Blitz in Horeswood on Saturday.

There are football and hurling games at home this Thursday for this age group starting at 6.30. Bannow-Ballymitty and Gusserane are the visitors. The under-11s are playing a blitz in New Ross on this evening, May 9, with games against Clongeen and Geraldine O’Hanrahans.

Our under-13 footballers had a good win tonight in town against St Mary’s of Maudlintown by a score of 4-7 to 1-5. under-15 footballers play at home next Monday evening against Bannow-Ballymitty and are in hurling action at home against Ratharogue-Cushinstown three days later. Try and get down and support the teams if you can.

Finally a quick reminder for everyone that the clothes collection fundraiser for the underage teams is coming up at the end of this month.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Our Intermediate Ladies got off to another fantastic start in the Intermediate Championship against Kilanerin on Friday, May 4. This was a game that we thought was going to prove tough for the ladies as they were missing some key players due to different commitments on the night but under the watchful eye of their manager Mick Carty the girls played absolutely superb and never showed any sign of doubt with scores coming in left right and centre. The ladies were in control from start to finish and have proved that they are one to watch in this Intermediate Championship. Final score on the night Taghmon-Camross 6-10 Kilanerin 1-12

Our under-16 girls were out on Thursday May 3 at home against Clongeen. The girls played really well from start to finish and there was very little Clongeen could do to stop them. The girls are off to a fantastic start this year with two wins out of two so far and if they continue playing the way they have been they will prove to be a force to be reckoned with. Final score on the night was Taghmon 8-09 Clongeen 2-01.

DATES FOR THE DIARY – As you are all aware our under-14 girls’ team have qualified for Féile this year which will see the girls heading off to Warrenpoint in Co. Down at the end of June to not only represent their club but their county also, this will be an amazing experience for the girls and their mentors.

So to help the girls on their journey to Féile we have organised a few key events which will be happening throughout this month and I know the girls would really appreciate your support.

On Friday, May 18, we are holding a coffee morning in Alice Brady’s from 10 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.; on Saturday, May 26, we will be holding a bake sale in the square from 10 a.m.; on Sunday, May 27, we will be holding a breakfast morning in the centre from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
