SUNDAY, MAY 27 NEON FUN RUN
Kennedy Park National School will host a 5K Neon fun run on at 10.30 a.m. The school is ensuring that it abides by one of the basic rules of road-running – be safe, be seen – by asking participants to wear neon and the brighter, the better. Today is the last day of the Irish Patchwork Society South East branch exhibition in New Ross Library running. Everyone is welcome to come along and see some fine examples of patchwork, some of which was made locally.

HEALING HAPPINESS EXHIBITION
At St Michael’s Theatre in New Ross, this eclectic exhibition by artist Anya features everrything from paintings of fairies to studies of nature. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the New Ross SPCA.
REMI HARRIS TRIO
The Remi Harris Trio take Gypsy Swing characteristics and infuse them with influences from Jazz, Blues, Rock’n’Roll, Funk, World Music and more. They play an eclectic mix of original compositions, jazz standards and new arrangements of music. The concert is at 8.30 p.m. in Wexford Arts Centre.

This year’s Strawberry Fair, Street Rhythms and Roots Festival officially gets under way with all the glitz and glamour of the Strawberry Ball on Thursday night. This year’s Strawberry Fair in Enniscorthy will officially be opened by author Carmel Harrington on the main stage at Market Square at 7 p.m. This will be followed by an introduction to this year’s Strawberry Princesses, dance performances, the winners of the Pub Talent competition and music from Morrissey & Quaid and The Gentlemen Callers as well as roots gigs in local pubs.
TIERNEY SINGLE LAUNCH
Musical duo brothers Peter and Kevin Tierney will release their debut single at 8 p.m. in Greenacres Gallery. The duo will perform along with Rachel Grace, Maca and Fran Greene. Entry is €10 and includes a copy of the single on CD.
TEEN BOOK CLUB
Wexford Library hosts the Teen Book Club on the first Friday of every month at 4 p.m.
SECRET SINGERS

MIND THE GAP
Mind the Gap is a Dutch (semi-acoustic) folk band who are visiting Ireland during the first two weeks of June. They will take to the stage in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel at 9 p.m. All welcome. A great opportunity to hear this innovative group.

Day two of the festival in Enniscorthy gets underway from 11 a.m. with stalls, stands and childrens entertainment throughout the day. The Army Band will perform in Market Square from 5 p.m. followed by interviews with the Strawberry Princesses by matchmaker Willie Daly and ‘Blind Date’ at 7.45 p.m. There will be music from The Remedy Club and JMA from 8.15 p.m. as well as plenty of roots gigs. AGNEW MCALLISTER DUO
Irish flautist Aisling Agnew and Scottish Guitarist Matthew McAllister are internationally recognised as one of the leading flute and guitar duos. They are renowned for deeply engaging performances, imaginative programming and consummate artistry. They play at St Iberius Church at 7.30 p.m.
DON BAKER AND ROB STRONG
Dublin Blues musician Don Baker will celebrate 50 years on the road this year, and will be joined by his good friends Rob Strong, Hughie O’Neill and Salvatore Urbano, along with several well-known guests along the way. Baker has played all over the world and is highly lauded for his harmonica playing skills. The gig is at 8.30 p.m. in Wexford Arts Centre.
COURTOWN BEACH CLEAN
Join Seal Rescue Ireland, Clean Coasts and Courtown Tidy Towns for a beach clean on Courtown’s Main Beach (boardwalk and car park), at 12 noon. All cleaning equipment will be supplied. Everyone is welcome.

There will be free kids entertainment in Gorey Shopping Centre from 12 noon, until 3 p.m. There will be face painting, balloon shaping, arts and crafts, and a colouring corner.

Day 3 of Enniscorthy’s oldest and favourite festival sees another huge range of activities. There will be food stalls dotted around the street, a classic car show in Abbey Square from 2 p.m., kids entertainment including Belle & The Beast in the Castle from 1 p.m. The Garda Band will perform in Market Square at 5.30 p.m. while this year’s Strawberry Queen will be crowned at 8 p.m. Morrissey & Quaid will then get some music going before reggae legend Natty Wailer and his Reggae Vibes take to the stage at 9 p.m. See the festival brochure for a full programme of events.
BOOK COLLECTORS FAIR
St Joseph’s Community Centre will become a veritable treasure trove for collectors of new, antiquarian and second hand books, coins, collectables and antiques from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is €1, kids are free. Door takings go to Wexford Homeless Housing Action Group.
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
A Corpus Christi procession takes place in New Ross, beginning from the New Haughton Hospital at 2:30 p.m. The procession will make its way to the community hospital; along Hospital Road to the Three Bullet Gate; then to the Youth Centre and to finish at the Mount Carmel Monastery.
OPEN DAY AT ARTRAMAN HOUSE
Artraman House will open once again to the public. These fabulous grounds are a sight to behold and the children love to wander around the fairy garden. Music will also be provided during the afternoon, along with refreshments.

STAGEFRIGHT LUNCHTIME PERFORMANCE
Stagefright is a collective of local women from all walks of life under the musical direction of Rebecca Warren. The group was established with a view to offering a musical outlet to women who might not otherwise have the opportunity to develop their singing ability. The objective was to take well-known popular songs and arrange acapella versions with layering of harmonies and vocal percussion. They perform at Wexford Arts Centre at 1 p.m.

Local filmmaker Els Dietvorst explores the fishing communities of

Little Red Riding Hood & The Silly Billy Wolf children’s show takes place at St Michael’s Theatre at 2 p.m. This colourful, fast-paced all singing and dancing show is a fun and gentle re-telling of the classic fairy-tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood is adventuring through the woods to visit her Granny, but somewhere along the way the Silly Billy Wolf is waiting.

Members of Access 2000, the local community education project, are hard at work organising a special fundraising fashion show in aid of Relay for Life Wexford. All clothing will be sold by auction and proceeds made will stay in Wexford.

THE Battle of New Ross in which around 3,000 rebels died within a 12 hour period 220 years ago is being re-enacted on Saturday, June 16.
The re-enactment will come down Mary Street and into South Street for practical purposes and there will be a choir performing, a reading and a recitation.

Gaelscoil Charman will host its second annual 5k fun run/walk. This is a fun family event; runners and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome.
