Lunchtime concert to take place in the Friary

THERE will be a lunchtime soprano concert at St Francis Friary on Saturday, June 16.

The concert which will feature Irish sopranos Patricia Goggins and Ruth Gallagher as well as pianist Eithne Corrigan.

The trio will present a programme of vocal duets from Monteverdi, Mozart, Offenbach, Moore and Sue Furlong and the concert will also feature the CWSM Quartet.

Tickets for the concert which take place at 1 p.m. are €10. It is €5 for those under 18 and tickets are available on the door.

Patricia Goggins is a Limerick-born soprano and vocal teacher. She sang soloist with Vocare under the late Sue Furlong, with the Bunratty Castle Singers, and has an AIMS award for her role in Verdi’s Macbeth. She was also a winner of the Arklow Challenge Cup at the Arklow Music Festival.

Ruth Gallagher, a Donegal-born soprano, graduated with an MA in Performanc­e at WIT Waterford. She has performed many solo recitals and sang solo with various choirs in the southeast. Ruth performed as soloist in workshops of Eric Sweeney’s opera The Invader and in North West Opera’s production of Hansel and Gretel.

Eithne Corrigan, a graduate of TCD, studied piano and violin at the RIAM, Dublin. As a repetiteur she has worked with Dublin Masterclas­ses, Dublin Grand Opera and Wexford Festival Opera, and as an accompanis­t collaborat­es with many musicians and musical societies in Wexford.

This is CWSM Quartet’s first public appearance and features Aisling Gouldson, Lara Guthrie, Ciarán English and Beth Powell. The quartet is directed by Geraldine Mahon.
