Go-karts among items seized as council pursues €60,000 in unpaid rates
A LARGE quantity of goods was seized from R-One Karting in Strandfield Business Park, Kerlogue, following a court judgement in relation to unpaid commercial rates of more than €60,000.
R-One Karting is operated by Roman Kriszak, who also runs a concrete wood business from the business park. In addition to seizing goods from both businesses, the Sheriff also seized items from Mr Kriszak’s home address. Among the items was a car, a number of go-karts and a large quantity of concrete wood paving slabs, together with a range of tools and machinery used for the manufacturing of the concrete wood.
This is the fourth such seizure in recent months whereby Wexford County Council has obtained a court order to have goods seized in relation to unpaid commercial rates which have accumulated over at number of years.
Payment of the council’s legal costs was also granted at the court hearings. The seized goods will now be auctioned by the Sheriff and the proceeds will offset against the rates due.
Commenting on the seizure, David Minogue, Head of Communications and Customer Services at Wexford County Council, said that the vast majority of rate payers made every effort to meet financial obligations, saying that such action was not a decision the council took lightly.
‘We make every effort to work with our customers to reach sensible and acceptable agreements regarding payment of commercial rates. But where there has been a complete and abject failure by the owner/operator to engage meaningfully with the Council, where the customer fails to make reasonable and consistent efforts to meet their rates payment obligations, then, following court order, seizure of goods will take place.’
