Nick CROSBIE, the founder of Crosbie Transcar Ltd, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, at Marymount Hospice in Cork.

Nick was born in Boderan, Ramsgrange, to Tom and May Crosbie. He was the eldest of a family of six - John, the late Tom, Michael, Denis and Gertrude.

Nick was founder and M.D. of Crosbie Transcar Ltd in the early 1970s and with his brother Tom in the early years began a very successful business.

Having started out at Ballybrazil, New Ross, Nick and Tom had premises in Dublin and later in Arklow. The business finally was centred at Tivoli docks in Cork where it continues today.

Nick’s energy, drive and ambition were an inspiration to all.

In 1986 Nick bought the Royal Hotel in New Ross, had it renovated and opened as The Crosbie Motor Hotel. Later a function room was added for weddings, discos and concerts. It became a very popular venue in New Ross and bands such as Christy Moore, The Dubliners and The Dublin City Ramblers played there.

Many people enjoyed the Sunday Morning Jazz and The Bushers every Sunday evening.

Nick went on to buy Creacon Lodge Hotel which catered for weddings, as well as having a very successful restaurant and he then bought Leo Hennessy’s bar in New Ross which he again refurbished and opened as The Ship.

Nick was fortunate enough to enjoy good health until recently and he lived life to the full. He loved to travel and had many holidays in Europe and the USA. His love of Grand Prix Racing brought him all over the world.

Nick was always interested in GAA, especially when his beloved Wexford were playing and he made many a journey to Croke Park to support them.

He also supported the local St James Club. However, his first and lasting love was Crosbie Transcar and the staff paid tribute to him by forming a guard of honour along with the St James GAA Club at his funeral.

Nick’s removal from Ryan’s Funeral Home in Wellingtonbridge was on Sunday, June 3, and his burial took place in Ramsgrange on June 4. His Mass was celebrated by chief celebrant Fr Jim Kehoe PP, Carrig on Bannow, Canon Dalton PP Gowran and Bennettsbridge and Fr Collander OSA.

Monsignor Don Kenny PP Ramsgrange and Fr Tom McGrath Duncannon were also in attendance.

Fr Kehoe described Nick as being ‘larger than life’ and that summed him up well.

Nick is deeply mourned by all his relatives, friends and employees, and especially by his loving family.

His month’s mind Mass will take place in Ramsgrange Church on Sunday, July 1, at 10.30 a.m.

May he rest in peace.
