Woman learned how to grow cannabis on­line

A YOUNG woman found grow­ing cannabis at her home in Bridgetown pleaded guilty to pos­ses­sion of the drug when she at­tended the District Court in Wex­ford with her mother.

Tay­lor Byrne (21) of 1 St David’s Well, Bridgetown was pros­e­cuted af­ter gar­daí raided her home in Septem­ber of 2015.

In a bed­room there they dis­cov­ered four plants, each two feet high, in an im­pro­vised ‘grow-house’ and six seedling plants were also seized.

Solic­i­tor Lana Do­herty con­firmed that her client, a sin­gle mother of two, learned her cul­ti­va­tion tech­niques from googling on the in­ter­net.

Judge Kevin Staunton noted that Ms Byrne was just 18 years of age at the time of the of­fence, which he de­scribed as an er­ror of judge­ment.

He al­lowed her the ben­e­fit of the Pro­ba­tion Act.
