Overturned truck causes delays on Rosslare Road

- By ANNA HAYES

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS were in place for a number of hours on Saturday when a truck overturned on the Rosslare Road roundabout at Drinagh at around 9 a.m.

Gardai arrived to the scene promptly and proceeded to impose restrictions and traffic diversions. Inspector Denis Whelan explained that the restrictions remained in place for a number of hours as specialist equipment had to be acquired to right the overturned trailer.

He added that there were no injuries or damage caused.

Anthony O’Brien, the official photographer for the Leinster Senior Football League, was driving in the direction of Rosslare on the morning and said he believed some cars had driven around the roundabout prior to the arrival of the Gardai.

‘I was coming up to the roundabout there was one car in front of me, and the car in front of them was an unmarked Garda car. They switched on the blue light and got out to inspect the scene. While they were there, another car, coming from the Duncannon Road roundabout direction drove onto the roundabout, attempting to go towards Rosslare and they stopped it and sent it back.’

Mr O’Brien, who was on holiday in Rosslare, where his wife has family, said he always had a camera with him due to his role with the Football League and he took the opportunity to snap a few pictures of the scene.

Gardai diverted traffic coming from town and from the Duncannon Road roundabout back towards town where Gardai had set up road diversions to bring traffic onto the Rosslare road from a different route.
