Bosco and Biddy on way as more Spiegeltent acts are announced

-

WITH extra attractions ranging from Bosco to Biddy from Glenroe, and OTT Wrestling to a couple of Ireland’s hottest new bands, this year’s Wexford Spiegeltent Festival line-up just got bigger and better.

Seven additional shows have been announced today (Tuesday), adding to a bill that already includes the likes of Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats, Paul Brady and Brendan Grace.

Among the new announcements is the Electric Swing Circus who will headline the annual festival’s ever-popular Prohibition Party in the Spiegeltent on Wexford Quayfront on Friday, October 19. The six-piece fronted by a sassy femaly double-act, fuse ‘saucy 20’s swing and stomping electro beats’using an electric double bass, vintage samples, gypsy-jazz guitar, keys, drums, and synths.

Making a Spiegeltent festival return are Hermitage Green, the popular Limerick folk rock outfit, who’ll perform tracks from their latest EP ‘Gold & Rust’ as well as old favourites when they visit Wexford for a quayfront show on Thursday, October 18.

More stirring sounds are promised in a double-header featuring Wild Youth and Chasing Abbey in the Spiegeltent on Sunday, October 14. Dublin quartet Wild Youth broke with a bullet last year as first single ‘All Or Nothing’ rocketed to the top of the Spotify viral charts, amassing half a million streams. They’ve since enjoyed headline sellout shows in Dublin and London as well as supporting Niall Horan, The Script and Zara Larsson on arena tours.

Tullamore urban pop trio Chasing Abbey started out playing trad and folk in their home town but landed a major record label contract with 3 Beat UK and Universal Music Group for their unique brand of pop, dance and hip-hop.

Stage comedy drama doesn’t get much better than John B Keane’s The Matchmaker and it’s coming to the Spiegeltent on Sunday, October 14 with Mary McEvoy - probably best known as Biddy in Glenroe - and Jon Kenny, beloved up and down the country as one half of D’Unbelieveables, playing a myriad of characters.

Ace comedienne Deirdre O’Kane heads an all-female comedy bill in the Spiegeltent on Thursday, October 18, supported by Emma Doran and Julie Jay.

For something completely different, maybe check out some high octane American-style wresting in the Spiegeltent on Sunday, October 21. Tickets for OTT Wrestling are €10 for kids, €15 for adults over 18, and €40 all-in for a family. Familes are also the target audience as cheeky chappy Bosco and the Paula Lambert Puppet Theatre make a return appearance on Sunday, October 14. Tickets for this one are €9 for kids, €12 for adults and €36 for a family.

The 2018 Wexford Spiegeltent Festival runs from Friday, October 12 to Sunday, October 28. Tickets for all the additional shows go on sale this Friday, August 24 from 10 a.m. at the box office on Wexford’s Main Street (053 91 99199) and online at wexfordspiegeltent.com

The final acts for this year’s festival will be revealed next week.
