Drugs worth over €45,000 discovered by gardaí
A GARDA investigation is ongoing, following the discover of over €45,000 worth of drugs at a house in Elderwood, Castlebridge at the weekend.
Members of the Garda Drug Unit, and uniformed gardai executed a search warrant on the premises at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. They discovered a large quantity of white powder, believed to be mephedrone, €50 worth of cocaine, and a further €100 worth of cannabis. The drugs have been sent for analysis.
One males in his 20s was questioned over the matter. The investigation is ongoing and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions in due course.
Garda Inspector Denis Whelan commended all members involved in the operation for their ‘excellent work’.
• Meanwhile, ecstasy, methamphetemine and cannabis herb valued at €20,000 were seized by gardaí in Newbawn on Friday.
As part of ongoing joint investigations targeting drug importations in the south east, a joint intelligence led operation was conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, the Drugs Unit from New Ross, and Revenue’s Customs Service from the Dublin and South East Region.
Gardaí, assisted by Revenue Customs Officers including the Customs dog unit, searched a home in the Newbawn area. A package was seized which contained the three drugs which have been sent for analysis, and have an estimated value of €20,000.
A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene and detained at New Ross Garda Station. He was later released. A file is being prepared for the DPP and investigations are continuing.
