Eileen wonderful mother and friend

-

A great sadness fell over the Terrerath area and across the county to hear of the passing of Eileen Sinnott, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend.

The beloved wife of Murty, and mother of Sonny, Jimmy, Margaret, MJ and Nicky and the late William and Nicholas, Eileen, née Codd, was originally from Blackhall, Killurin.

She was a daughter of the late Mary and James, and sister to Molly, Kathleen, Ger and John. Eileen was a loving sister-in-law to Eddie, Mike, Teresa and Kathleen and doting grandmother to Emma, Melissa, Sarah, Karen, Nichola, Patrick, Maggie, Denise, Christina, Derek, Liam, Corey and Brooke.

Having met Murty at a dance in Camross they lived first in Newbawn before building their own home in Terrerath beside Murty’s home-place. Eileen spent years minding children for several families. She was a great social person and both Eileen and Murty were well known in card circles as ‘Mammy and Daddy’, where all tricks in 45 were earned not given.

Eileen passed away in Wexford General Hospital on Sunday, August 5, after a short illness surrounded by her family.

The family were overwhelmed with the outpouring of sympathy and support from the huge numbers who attended the wake and funeral Mass and burial in Terrerath.

The funeral left their home in Terrerath and family and friends walked the short distance to the church where Noel Dunne provided the lovely music at the Mass.

The eulogy was read at the start of the ceremony by Eileen’s daughter-in-law Mary who paid a warm tribute to Eileen’s life and loves. Symbols of her life were brought to the alter by some of her grandchildren, namely Christina, Karen and Maggie, a worn pair of knitting needles to symbolise all her years knitting aran jumpers, a bingo book showing her love of bingo which she shared with her grandchildren, and lastly a deck of cards where it was said ‘I hope there is a strong card table waiting in heaven’.

Readings were read by grandchildren Nichola and Denise. Prayers of the Faithful were read by her daughter-in-law Eileen and Frances, grand- daughters Melissa, Sarah and nieces Sinead and Deirdre and nephew David.

Fr Don Kenny read out the gospel, and remarked to family members that Eileen was a great friend to him during his time in Terrerath. Fr Sean Devereux, who celebrated the funeral Mass, said how he had gotten to know Eileen and Murty very well since his arrival in Terrerath, and their was always a cup of tea during their visits.

Thanks were paid to celebrant and local priest Fr Sean who was of great assistance to the family during Eileen’s illness and during the funeral arrangements.

The family also extended their thanks to Fr Odhran Furlong for co-celebrating the funeral Mass, and Fr Gerard from Cabra, Dublin, a friend of Eileen’s granddaughter Karen.

Tributes were paid to all the friends and neighbours for all their help, and to all those who kindly donated food at the time of the wake in her house and to all who provided refreshments in the hall after the funeral.

Eileen’s sister Molly and grandson Liam brought forward the offertory.

The musical piece chosen by her son Nicky was ‘Supermarket Flowers’ by Ed Sheeran which was written by the musician as a tribute to his mum concluded the emotional Mass.

Escorted by her sons and brothers, Eileen’s remains were brought down to the family plot in the adjoining ceremony.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
