Fun day for Crumlin hospital

- By ANNA HAYES

A FAMILY fun day will take place at Furlong’s Bar in Campile on Saturday from 2 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin and admission is free. It will be a fun-filled afternoon with entertainment and games for all.

The barbecue will be grilling up plenty of mouthwatering treats in the outside garden area. There will be children’s face painting, duck races, and numerous games with lots of prizes up for grabs during the day, as well as spot and raffle prizes from local businesses.

The ever talented Mark Monaghan will provide the entertainment while kids can enjoy the bouncy castle or, for the bigger kids, the rodeo bull.

Organiser and proprietor of Furlong’s Bar, Brian Furlong is hoping to raise substantial funds for the children’s hospital. He is no stranger to fundraising for the hospital. In June 2012 Brian and three other local men took on the 110 mile journey from Crumlin Children’s Hospital to Whelan’s Pub, Campile on ride-on Lawnmowers. The successful Blades of Glory Challenge was part of a larger fundraising campaign run in Campile.

‘The nursing care given and the level of medical skill at Crumlin Hospital is unbelievable’, says Brian, whose daughter Aisling has been a patient at the hospital in the past.

‘When you sit back and look, it’s scary just how many people experience it. Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital is used by over 100,000 Irish children annually. It really is an asset this country needs to support. Only when you, or a family member, need it will you truly realise its importance and value,’ Brian added.
