Our Lady’s Island PILGRIMAGE

Our Pilgrimage season commenced on Wednesday last with a huge attendance despite the poor weather conditions. It continues with Mass at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. every day. Eucharisti­c Holy Hour every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Healing with blessing of Oils after 3 p.m. Mass. On Sunday next, August 26, the Papal Mass from the Phoenix Park will be shown on a Big Screen at 3 p.m. Come and experience with others and family this once in a lifetime event. GAA LOTTO

The 2018 AGM will take place on Thursday, August 30, at 7.45 p.m. in Tomhaggard Social Centre. A cheque presentati­on to the Rape Crisis Centre from funds raised at our performanc­e of the Night Alive in the National Opera House back in May will take place just before the meeting commences.

We were delighted to take part in the variety concert as part of the fifth Leo Carthy Weekend on the August bank holiday. It was a great night of entertainm­ent and laughter for the huge audience to enjoy. Well done to Seán Carthy, Shay Hannon, Paddy McGuire, Terence O’Byrne, Catherine Walsh and Trish Boyce, who took part in the comedy sketches on the night and also to Breda and Nick Hayes, who were in charge of the lighting. Ava and Amber Newport and their family would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who embraced their awareness event for child and adolescent mental health services at Carne beach on August 12.

Their event, a beach floss, saw well over 300 people in attendance which was organized and supplied by volunteers and donations. This event was supported and encouraged in Wexford and as far away as America with local papers and radio stations taking a keen interest in running their story.

Cllr Frank Staples offered support and guidance to the girls whilst Cllr Ger Carthy, Cllr Davy Hynes and Cllr Lisa MacDonald spoke on the day about fighting for an acceptable child and adolescent mental health service in Wexford and the importance of the community uniting in numbers to regain this service for Wexford and beyond. On Monday the 13th we were delighted to take part in a Community Beach/Dune Clean-up. This was organised by the Environmen­tal Section of Wexford County Council, we would like to Thank them for organising what was a timely Clean of the entire Beach, it certainly compliment­s the work we do on an on going basis.

Also we would like to Thank the very many TT Volunteers, who turned out after what has been a long and work intensive Spring/summer Season.

While we await the results of this year’s National Competitio­n we are continuing with the normal maintenanc­e work and again we would ask for your co-operation especially with the removal of litter and weeds from outside ‘Your Own Patch’.
