Niall’s knock-out billing alongside Katie in Boston
GOREY heavyweight boxer Niall Kennedy will fight at Boston’s TD Garden, the iconic home of NBA franchise the Boston Celtics, in October.
Niall, from Willow Park, has been added to the bill of Katie Taylor’s next fight, whose world title defence versus Cindy Serrano was officially confirmed last week for the same location.
The Wicklow-based garda will take to ring at the 20,000 capacity arena on a night of world championship boxing.
The heavyweight boxer has a record of 11 wins and one draw in his career to date and has been confirmed for the undercard of the Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO World middleweight clash with Rhode Island’s Demetrius Andrade.
Niall, who holds Massachusetts and New England State Titles, last fought in June when drawing with Joel Caudle.
Taylor, the IBF and WBA lightweight champion, will take on Cindy Serrano, the WBO featherweight champ from Puerto Rico.
Taylor versus Serrano will be the co-main event at the 20,000-capacity arena.
Niall is married to Enniscorthy woman Niamh Lacey, who is also a member of An Garda Siochána.
Niall began his journey in Gorey Boxing Club at the age of seven, but did not fully concentrate his efforts on it until he was 26.
He is known in Gorey as Basil, the name he took for his Confirmation and his father’s name.
