COURTOWN

We take this opportunity to congratulate our ladies who won the Inaugural Inter Club trophy last week. Twenty different clubs took part in this new competition in which Courtown Ladies came out on top with Stackstown Golf Club claiming runner up place. We would also like to wish the best of luck to team manager Laura Funge and her team who will play in the Midlands Area final of the Junior Foursomes in Tullamore next Saturday.

On Friday and Saturday last we had our President’s Prize. Mr. Vincent Kavanagh, and with the exception of a few small showers on Friday conditions were almost perfect. Qualifying rounds were played on Friday and Saturday morning with a nine-hole shotgun start on Saturday evening.

It is not every day that we see a hole in one during a competition but we actually had two recorded during the President’s, with Seamus Kennelly on the third and then Joe Kenny on the eight but not to be outdone Colin Sunderland scored a two on the Index three par four seventeenth .

Our new manager, Mark Ruddy, is now in his third week at Courtown and has settled nicely in his new role. If any member has any topic that they would like to discuss with Mark he can be contacted phone, email or simply drop to have a chat.

It is a sure sign that summer is over when we are already talking about our ever-popular Winter League which will start again at the end of this month. Our Winter League will once again be sponsored by Colman Doyle E B S Gorey. Again, if any member has any opinion on the format of The Winter League feel free to contact the Competitions Committee and put your view forward.

We also wish all the best to all who will be taking part in the Club Matchplay finals which will be played on Saturday afternoon. The timesheet has been reserved from 1.00 to 2.00 p m.
