WEXFORD’S HEALTHY Town campaign will kick off with a community walk this Friday, led by Wexford hurler Lee Chin.

The walk will leave from Wexford Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre and last approximately 40 minutes. It is open to all ages and everyone in the locality is encouraged to get involved in what will be the first event of the Pfizer Healthy Town initiative.

This year’s programme was launched in Wexford County Council last week, with the Mayor of Wexford Borough District, Cllr Tony Dempsey, and Cllr John Hegarty addressing the crowd, which included TD James Browne, members of Wexford County Council and representatives from local health-related clubs, groups and businesses who had contributed to this year’s programme.

The full events schedule, along with the official Wexford Town Healthy Town map – an illustrated map highlighting some of the health and well-being resources available in Wexford Town – was also revealed at the event.

As part of the programme, the people of Wexford town are invited to participate in a range of free events and seminars which will cover the areas of heart, mind, body and nutrition.

They will run throughout September and October and aim to encourage people to make simple, small changes to their lifestyle to benefit their overall health and well-being.

Other events scheduled are: a free Chi running workshop with Mary Jennings on Thursday, September 20 in St Joseph’s Community Centre at 6.30 p.m.; a free mental health workshop with Irish author and medic Dr Harry Barry on Wednesday, October 10 in Clayton White’s Hotel at 7.30 p.m.; and a free cookery demonstration with celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio and the Irish Heart Foundation on Wednesday, October 24 in the Riverbank House Hotel at 6.30 p.m.
