Rev­enue seize wine at Euro­port

Rev­enue of­fi­cers seized al­most 700 litres of wine in two sep­a­rate op­er­a­tions at Ross­lare Euro­port last Fri­day.

Of­fi­cers seized over 600 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that had dis­em­barked a ferry from Roscoff, France. An Ir­ish man in his 60’s was ques­tioned in re­la­tion to the in­ci­dent.

In a sep­a­rate find, of­fi­cers seized 90 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that came off the same ferry and a man in his 50’s was ques­tioned. The wine seized had a com­bined re­tail value of ap­prox­i­mately €10,000 and a po­ten­tial loss to the Ex­che­quer of al­most €5,000. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in re­la­tion to both seizures which were part of Rev­enue’s on­go­ing op­er­a­tions tar­get­ing the sup­ply and sale of il­le­gal al­co­hol in the shadow econ­omy. Since the start of 2018, over 59,000 litres of smug­gled al­co­hol have been seized by Rev­enue of­fi­cers in Ross­lare Euro­port.
