Revenue seize wine at Europort
Revenue officers seized almost 700 litres of wine in two separate operations at Rosslare Europort last Friday.
Officers seized over 600 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that had disembarked a ferry from Roscoff, France. An Irish man in his 60’s was questioned in relation to the incident.
In a separate find, officers seized 90 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that came off the same ferry and a man in his 50’s was questioned. The wine seized had a combined retail value of approximately €10,000 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €5,000. Investigations are ongoing in relation to both seizures which were part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal alcohol in the shadow economy. Since the start of 2018, over 59,000 litres of smuggled alcohol have been seized by Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort.
