Warrant revoked as man turns up late for court

-

A BENCH warrant for the arrest of Ronan Murphy (30) of 4A Selskar Court, Wells Lane, Wexford, was revoked last week after the defendant turned up late to court.

Murphy was charged with criminal damage to a total of four Enniscorthy shops - Gaelic Stores, Spring Design, Next Door Off Licence and Bruce Betting - on September 11, 2010.

A significant amount of damage had been caused and the case had been adjourned on several occasions to allow Murphy to continue paying compensation. When he initially failed to appear, gardaí told the Judge that Murphy had taken three previous warrants and the Judge issued another.

However, he turned up later in the day, bringing with him a further €700 in compensation. Judge Haughton said he was minded to adjourn the case for one week for Murphy to lodge the €700 he had with him in court.

‘I can’t take another day off for this,’ Murphy pleaded. ‘It’s going to cost me my job.’

Judge Haughton then said he would adjourn the case for a week, but would excuse Murphy from attending if the €700 was paid over. He agreed to this.
