A shining new set of jerseys for Educate Together’s GAA players
THE PUPILS at Wexford Educate Together will be sporting a set of shining new jerseys for their first GAA fixture this year, following the donation of the much-needed attire.
For the past two years, since the school entered the Rackard League competition, they have had to borrow jerseys from Clonard GAA Club, which were kindly offered by Suzanne Brennan. However, after his involvement in coaching kids last year, local councillor and teacher Thomas Forde generously donated a set of jerseys to the school.
The jerseys were designed over the summer months and were ready for the beginning of the season.
However, before that, the question of a badge reared its head. Because the school is multi-denominational and has no catchment area or club link, there was no badge to use on jerseys.
Sports coordinator Aileen Kelly, aided by Mr Forde, decided to hold a competition at the end of the 2017–18 year. The children were asked to think about what the school stands for. Three entries were then chosen as runners-up and a winner, and were incorporated into the final logo, which was designed by Gilian and Robert Duggan White from Gilly and Rob Ltd.
The three winners were Ruby Reynolds (sixth class), Eva Byrne (fifth class), and Hannah Roche (fourth class) who was the overall winner.
The whole school effort has resulted in a beautiful set of jerseys and a step in the right direction for Wexford Educate Together GAA.
