Campaign for a community centre at Garrywilliam site

-

THE CAMPAIGN to develop a community centre at the community field in Garrywilliam has begun in earnest with the Development Committee launching their new initiative, the Silver Circle.

Having carried out various works on the sports facilities at the site, the committee has now turned its thoughts towards developing a community hall that will be open to all local groups for use, from the youth club and active retirement group, to sports clubs who need indoor space.

In 2006, local landowner, the late Robert Harvey, donated a 19.5 acre field to the parish for the purpose of building a community facility. Since then, various fundraisers and grants helped the community to develop the sports fields in the complex.

While the community and parish has various facilities and halls dotted around the area, none are big enough or fit the needs of the many local groups looking for space.

The Silver Circle is a series of twelve monthly draws, and one bumper draw confined to holders of the 400 tickets sold. Each month, five prizes of €200 are up for grabs and the bumper draw will have a total prize pot of €10,000. The total prize fund for the year will be €22,000 and joining the circle costs €240, with tickets on a ‘first come/ first serve’ basis.

Interested parties can sign up by contacting the committee through their Facebook page or by email on: crossabegballymurncommunity@ gmail.com. The first draw is scheduled for November.
